View Full Version : Version 6 annoyances... or why the heck did Adobe do this?

I'm using version 6 .. I agree with many others that the color scheme is a little dark for my taste.
another annoying thing I've found is that when you use the keyboard shortcut "alt+space bar" to zoom out I get a drop down menu at the top left corner of the window that give the option to maximize, minimize, restore, etc. it does adjust the zoom level but if you have your sound going you get that annoying sound that says that windows doesn't like what you're doing.
I think we should gather our observations on this new version in one thread so it's easier to find solutions ... or maybe a sympathetic ear?

John,
It is CTRL-spacebar... not ALT.
ALT-spacebar is a windows shortcut to bring up exactly the menu you describe.

Thanks Byron ... but in version 5 Elements I could use "ctrl + spacebar" to increase magnification , and "alt + spacebar" to decrease magnification, in version 6, both of these shortcuts work, but as I described in my first post I also get the drop down menu to adjust the window size or even close the window.
I can live with this but it is annoying ...

John,
I get it, now...
I observe that, in PSE5, when I press ATL-spacebar, if my cursor is within the image window, I get the "decrease magnification" cursor. If my cursor is outside the image window, I get the Windows control menu like you describe.
Does that make any difference in PSE6?

Hi Byron-- this is a bit of a head scratcher.
Where the cursor is doesn't seem to make a difference i always get the windows menu with the alt spacebar combo, but now that I've experimented a little if I use "ctrl spacebar" to magnify, release the ctrl and THEN press alt I get the minus sign and no annoying windows menu. I'm kind of stumped with this. I'm going to check the Adobe site and see if there's any other cpomplaints like mine.

You can set PSE 6 to allow the use of a mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Agreed, though, the keyboard shortcuts allow you to keep your hands in the general work space.

What I found is that it depends on what you press first. Spacebar Alt zooms out. Alt Spacebar brings up that windows thing. Got to break myself of the habit of hitting the Alt first. Spacebar bring up the hand and then you can Ctrl or Alt to zoom in or out.

Hey thanks Tony I'll give that a try... I'm like you it will take a while to remeber to het the space bar first. I guess we're all creatures of habit
