In PSE5/PE3 as well as PSE6/PE4 you have the option of sending a slideshow created in PSE to PE either as a wmv or “as is”. In the “as is” route the burden of sizing for the chosen format falls to PE. If you use the wmv route in PSE, the sizing is done there via the profile (codec) selected for the writing of the wmv.

Now PE4 is offering HD presets (720p and 1080i) as well as the prior standard, standard widescreen presets. If you are creating slideshows in PSE6, more than likely you will take the “as is” route and set up PE in advance for the desired format of the material coming to it from PSE. HOWEVER, for those who for whatever reason want to create the wmv slideshow to send to PE, but do not find the appropriate profile in PSE for what they want to do in PE, check the following out to see if it comes together for you, and I have not misspoken.

PSE6 Organizer
Output, Slide Show Output Dialog, Save as a File, Movie File (.wmv)
File Settings, Slide Size…I found 10 options
High (800 x 600)
Computer Monitor (640 x 480)
Web (320 x 240)
E-Mail (160 x 120)
Portable Media Center (320 x 240)
VCD – NTSC (352 x 240)
VCD – PAL (352 x 288)
DVD – NTSC (720 x 480)
DVD – PAL (720 x 676)
Browse for more…..

This Browse for more is the interesting part. In the “Select a Profile Dialog” that appears with this selection, the following route will take you to additional profiles (ex. the 720p one):

My Computer, Local Disk, Programs Files, Adobe, Photoshop Elements 6.0, shared assets, locales, en_us, tv_profiles. The profiles that I found there were:

00 Standard Definition (NTSC).prx
02 Standard Definition (PAL).prx
04 Widescreen Standard Definition (NTSC).prx
06 Widescreen Standard Definition (PAL).prx
10 Enhanced Definition.prx (this is the 480p 4:3 Full Screen one)
12 Widescreen Enhanced Definition.prx (this is the 480p one)
14 Widescreen High Definition.prx (this is the 720 p one)

These are referred to as Windows Media Encoder Profiles and have a .prx extension

I hope that this may of use to someone sometime. Among other things I got a better idea about the Browse option in that Slide Size drop down list.
