Help - I was cleaning off memory cards getting ready for the "big day" which is coming soon for the new baby to arrive and was trying to offload the images from Cara's baby shower. I have previously accessed and printed some of the images in the first folder on the card but now it won't let me have them. It says the file is corrupt. It allowed me to access the other two folders with no problem and offloaded them just fine. When I put it back in the camera, the 1st 4 images in the 1st folder say they are corrupt but it won't let me delete them. The rest all say they are okay - but won't let me have them either. I tried to delete a couple and it says they are protected, even though I did not assign any type of protection. I can't see them anywhere except for using the camera. I can see they are still there and can scroll through them, but nothing else will (pc, laptop, cardreader) sees them. Can they be saved? HELP!!!!

There are utilities that claim to be able to recover image files from cards.

Here's one: http://www.photoone.net/

There's a free trial and a paid version ($25.) Worth trying.

Good luck!

Oh Nancy!
I had a corrupt card this past summer--I took it to my local photo place but they could not get any more off it then I did. I tried to use one online (a free one of course) and never did get it to work--but I did not try the program mentioned above. I can't remember what program I tried (it's on my work computer). Good luck-wish I could have been of some help.:(

I do recall some CF cards were coming with recovery software a while back. Good news for you.:)

Thanks Gary. I was digging around while I was waiting for someone to respond and found a recovery disk for my CF card that came with it. I have never had to use it so I didn't think twice about it. I put it in and ran a scan and on the first pass recovered the first two files that were saying they were corrupt. Oddly enough - it recovered them in RAW even though I shot in JPEG :confused:
I cancelled the scan because it was taking so long before I realized it had to scan twice to recover once. I have started it over again and will keep my mitts off until it's done this time. Keep your fingers crossed!! If it doesn't work I'll go check out the one you found. Thanks again.

YEAHHHHHHHH - and a Warning to everyone! I was not only able to recover those files, but 400 other files that I erased and wrote over several times over! I found photos from a year ago!!!!! Wow - erasing is not erasing - be careful what you photograph.

Thats great.:)

What software did you end up using?

Gary
It was Sandisk Rescue Pro. It came with my card and I put it away so I forgot I even had it. It took about 30 minutes to scan the card and locate the files, then another 30 minutes to "rebuild" them. It found about 15 it could not recover. The thing is - now the card won't format. I get an error every time I try in my camera. I used a different card and had no problems so I think this card is shot. I'm gonna check my warranty info but think this one is a lost cause.:(

Nah - not gonna post em but, man was that a cute butt! :D:D

Nancy, did you try formatting the card on your PC instead of the camera? It may indeed be shot, but that might be worth a try. Also, does the Sandisk Reschue Pro utilities disk you used for recovery have a formatting routine?

Chuck
I did not try formatting on the PC because everything I've read said not to to that. I could give it a shot though. I didn't see an option in the software but was really tired and didn't feel like messing with it too much by the time it got done so it may be there and I just didn't see it.

Nancy, at this stage, I don't think it would hurt to format using your card reader attached to the PC - so long as you're sure you've recovered all the photos!

However, even if it does format eventually, I'm not sure I'd trust the card with your photos anymore. Perhaps you should check with SanDisk regarding warranty coverage; maybe they'll swap out your card for a brand new one.

Well Chuck - I tried reformatting in both the computer and camera and no go. I guess the card is shot. The good news - they are guaranteed for life so I am sending it in to be replaced.

Oddly enough - my boss came in yesterday and asked if I ever had to recover files from a memory card and I told him just this week. He accidentally re-formatted his memory card with his photos from a trip abroad. I said I would try and was able to get every single one. Amazing!

The software, Sandisk Rescue Pro, is pretty great stuff!

The fact that the card was corrupt may be the reason that you can not format it anyway. Just glad you got what you did.

As far as the boss is concerned..wellllll..ummm..you know.;):D
