When using either elements 4.0 or 5.0, I create a new document. size is unimportant. the color is white, 300 resolution. I make a new layer and go to the brush tool. The foreground color is black. When I pick a round hard or round soft brush and try to paint, nothing happens. If I make no changes except go to a chalk or spatter brush, it works as it should. Why doesn't the hard or soft round brush work. I have tried them in all sizes.I even tried reinstalling elements 5.0, I would also like to find Danlewins gold layer style. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks whizbo

check to make sure you are not painting in white. White on white will not show up. Try changing colors and see if that makes a difference. Check to see that you are in RGB mode. Both of these has tripped me up before.

whizbo,

Do you have a graphics tablet? Sometimes, switching between the stylus and your regular mouse leaves the brush tool in a zone somewhere between. Also, if your stylus or tablet-mouse are too near the tablet. Try making a small motion with the stylus, then placing it aside, then beginning again with the regular mouse.

If no tablet is involved, it might also be that tablet options have been enabled in your Brush options... and since a mouse does not generate "pressure", pressure-sensitive brush-tips would not act right.

Just rambing thoughts....

Find Dan Lewin's Golden Styles here (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1044782).

If that link doesn't take you there, go to the Adobe Exchange and search under dalewin in Photoshop Styles.

I set the tablet mouse aside and tried the stylus and it worked the way it should with all brushes, guess the mouse needs more cheese.
thanks
