Hello, I am not presently having any problems. I just purchased Elements 5, I'm new to Photoshop. I am also working my way thru the book, "Photoshop Elements 5" by Barbara Brundage, a huge help. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any good magazines to look for that would be good for a newbie, who would like to try all sorts of techniques & projects, esp art. I am getting lots of good tips & info here & I'm glad I'm I found you all.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

PC Photo is a good magazine. I also like many of the digital photo magazines from the U.K., although they can be pricey. Still, they tend to have more content. I buy mine at the local Barnes & Noble.

I subscribe to PC Photo. The photoshop articles alone, make it worthwhile for me. Geo. :-)

Hi ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
If you haven't aleady subscribed here then that is an option that I would suggest. You get 8 newletters per year plus access to the subscriber area where there are over 200 Video Tutorials and around 100 written ones :)

In addition to subscribing to this site (which has been invaluable) I've been picking up Photoshop Creative magazine at Barnes and Noble. It has a lot of CS articles but I've found that I can use portions of those tutorials as I've been increasing my knowledge of Elements. The CD's that come with the magazine almost make it worth the purchase price as it contains free stock photo's, fonts, shapes, gradients, color swatches and more.
God Bless,

I see that jillian has a book by Barbara Brundage. I'm looking for a good tutorial book that will take me from the begining, through intermidiate, and touch on at least some advanced stuff. Is this a good book for that? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I have subscibed to the website (2 years) and have gone through only a few tutorials online, but I always like having a hard copy to reference.
Thanks,
Gary

The best magazine I know is Digital Photo followed by Digital Camera. Both have excellent tutorials to do in conjunction with the attached cd and give instructions for photoshop and elements. Just try one, I am sure you will find them just what you are looking for.
PS They are UK based so maybe expensive to you but worth every penny.

I don't think there are many if any books, that take you from beginner to expert.
I find most come in two styles. Ones like Barbara's that give great explanations on what the tools do and how to make things work for you.
Other ones that have tutorials and/or techniques to achieve certain effects.
The thing with expert type books is, once you get good (or better :)) then you tend to wander off in a certain direction. some like the restoration, some like design and others like creations or other things. So the more advanced books tend to be more focused n their subject matter.
I am sure there are exceptions and these are just generalities that I have noticed.:)

I agree with Gary. I'd pick Barbara Brundage's or Philip Andrews' "A-Z" book as a basic reference work and then, depending on the kind of images I'm most interested in, buy a book that has the appropriate tutorials.

Thank-you for the welcome & all the good suggestions about the best choices to look for in magazines. Sounds like I made a good choice with Barbara's book to start learning the basics and then going in my own direction after that. Again, thank-you everyone for the input & suggestions.

By the way, don't let the term "newsletter" throw you off when it comes to Photoshop Elements Techniques - it is a full color magazine - 31 pages this month. :)

Actually I find this forum the best magazine around. Learn't more here than from any of the magazines although I must admit I still pick them up from time to time. Photoshop Creative as someone already mentioned is a good one although it is all Photoshop despite claiming to be Elements as well - but most things can be done with a bit of adaptation and it's good for ideas.
