Hi,
Have just been viewing the blurbs about PE 4.
It looks very good but having only recently purchased PE3 it seems a bit of a rip off that you just can't buy an upgrade instead of having to buy the full program. Even with $20 off!
By the way it is not available to our Mac users.
What do you think?
Kev.

Kev ...
... it puzzles me why they haven't posted a Mac version yet and the UK version shows Windows only too?
Can't see them not doing ... especially when the poll in our subscribers area shows:
16% of people responding are using Macs
80% using Windows
4% using both

hi Kev, I'm so busy trying to learn 3 that I'm not even thinking of 4. Rick

Wendy,
This is quote re: the Mac.
"What about a version for the Macintosh?
Photoshop Elements 4.0 is only available for the Windows platform, with no announcement from Adobe about a release a Macintosh version. In all honesty, we too would be happier if there was a Macintosh version of Photoshop Elements 4.0. Since there isn’t, we will continue along the same path we always have: to include Macintosh shortcuts for Photoshop Elements 3.0 wherever possible, and to indicate if a feature or tool is Windows-only".
This from the company that runs the newsletter etc.
Big companies seem to disregard the interests of their users.
Kev.

I have only had Elements 3 for going on 3 weeks, is it really worth upgrading? Plus, the additional cost, I am just learning how to use "3".

I just read through the Full Overview - the 2 things that I was hoping for are not there. First was a separation of Album (Organizer) and second was burning to DVD. I also thought the automatic red eye correction as you are importing your photos could be very scary.
I guess we will have to wait until we hear from people who are using it.
Added after watching some of the videos on the home page:
The Magic Selection tool looks fantastic!

I haven't had a chance yet to go over what's new in pse 4 but it doesn't really matter. I won't be upgrading. At $20 off it just isn't worth it. I have invested too much in elements 3. Wait 6 months and it will be cheaper than the $20 off and they will already be working on a new version. While this is frustrating to some of us, think of how it feels to those who produce the books? Some PSE 3 books are just arriving on the shelves and now a new version is coming out! It kind of makes it hard for those sales I would think.

If Adobe handles this like they've done previous upgrades the cost of upgrade for recent buyers of PSE3 will be the cost of shipping only. Register your copy. Keep your receipts.

Hi Brice,
They say it is a full program not an upgrade
I hope it does come out as an upgrade as I've only had PE3 for about a month.

Kev ...
They don't do upgrades for Elements what they do is sell the new version slightly cheaper to people who already have the previous version. This is usually only offered, via the Adobe site, for a short time after the release.
In the past they have offered the new version to people who bought the old version within so many days ... but I haven't seen this option yet.
Here is the link to the UK options:

:? This is a bit confusing. Wendy says Adobe won't do an upgrade, yet the Adobe guy said that they do. I would like the additional templates as Scott Kelby said there are many of better quality. I have only had my program a week, my birthday present.

Hi Arlee ...
In my last post I said
"In the past they have offered the new version to people who bought the old version within so many days ... but I haven't seen this option yet. "
I suspect that you will fall into this category ... when you spoke to Adobe did they tell you how to go about getting it?

Sorry Wendy, I didn't mean to misrepresent what you are saying, sincerely. If I knew how to put in sections from the posts I would be more clear. I guess I thought this guy was an Adobe guy, pretty gulable.

Then, you commented with this:

Oh well, I do have enough to learn with 3, obviously. Thank you.

Arlee I would contact ADOBE themselves and see what they say since you've just had it a week. It would be a shame if you couldn't get the new version since you just bought.

Arlee ...
It is very likely that Adobe will do a similar thing for PSE4 ... it is just that they haven't announced anything yet.
So keep your fingers crossed ... or why not try phoning their customer service line :)

If I were you I wouldn't wait for them to announce anything. If you've bought Elements 3 recently it wouldn't hurt to try calling them and seeing what they say. Worst case scenario you've only wasted a few minutes on the phone. Worth a try at least...

Wendy,
I got so excited about the new online course that I registered for it without even looking at the PSE4 stuff! Is the training using 3 or 4? And will it matter that much?
And why in the world did they leave us wonderful Mac heads out of the loop??

Carol, I signed up and did the first lesson on retouch. It is applicable to 3 or 4 without using the new features in 4.
I am also a Mac user and believe we just have to wait a while and we will see something for us.

Carol ...
I haven't signed up for the courses yet so I'm not able to help on this one ... but it sounds like Ron has sussed it out for us :)
Sounds like they will be great online classes to take ... and we all know how good the last lot were :)

Thanks everyone. After reading comments and starting to learn PSE3, I have decided the 3 will entertain me for a longgggg time. By the time I have learned 3 well, then I am sure another version will already be available.
The forums have helped me tremendously! Due to all the free download templates available (websites on forum for scrapbooks) the reason for me to upgrade to 4 has been eliminated. I received some amazing help on pattern fills as well. I am so excited. Thank you!

... so glad that you are enjoying using Elements. There are lots of different ways to use it and sometimes it seems like we try them all :)

Like so many others with a Mac, I'm still deep into learning PSE 3 & have a "wait & see" feeling for a version 4 for Mac.
I do think that the newsletter, and I will be renewing my subscription soon, will still be very useful & worth the subscription price as we can still download videos etc.
I already have a considerable investment in PSE 3 books (don't we all) & have promised myself I won't fret about Adobe being so stingy with us Mac people.
ONE of these days (don't hold your breath) I MAY have a picture worthy of uploading for you all to see & comment on.
In the meantime, this forum & the Apple iPhoto discussions forum are my first places to go to every day when I sit down at my computer.

Isn't "Mary with my Mac" the first rough cut title before the Beatles wrote "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?"
