Smiles--Thank you for your kind comment. No you don't see many of them anymore. There were originally 7 of them, or so I have told, in Madison County but unfortunately, someone decided that they weren't needed so they burnt two of the down. They have rebuilt one of them but, it is not the orginal one so I didn't photograph it.

Kev--So glad you liked it. When I was taking a photo of one of the bridges, a tourist from Japan asked me why they were covered. Ya know, I couldn't answer the question and still has me wondering.
This next weekend is the annual Bridges of Madison County festival in Winterset, Iowa where the movie was made. There will be thousands of tourist there and most of them will take a tour to the bridges. That is why I did it this weekend.
I didn't see Clint.

Hi Garry, I love your montage! Which bridge was featured in the movie? I had the same thought as Kev...where's Clint? I just love the movie...Meryl Streep was excellent as well as Clint.
I think they started covering bridges because it was determined that the roof greatly extended the lifespan of the main underlying support structure of a bridge. We have a unique covered bridge here in VA called "Humpback Bridge" and I learned that while visiting it a few years ago.

Janet--Thank you for the nice comment.
As I understand it, there were three of the bridges in the movie. The bridge where Meryl went to meet Clint was the Cedar Bridge. It was burnt down in 2002 and was the only one I didn't photograph.
The Holliwell Bridge, the one in the upper right and the Roseman Bridge, the one in the lower left of my collage were also in the movie.
Originally there were seven Covered Bridges. The seventh was called McBride and it was burnt down many years ago. This bridge was a half mile south of my in-laws.
Thank you for the information as to why they were covered. I would never have thought of that but I guess it stands to reason.
I guess Clint was to busy to come to the photo shoot. LOL

Garry - Love your photos. We went to the Festival a year or so after the movie came out. It was before the burning of Cedar Bridge. I thought it was the Roseman Bridge where Francesca met Robert. Anyway, I loved the book. I loved the movie. I loved the bridges. You did a great job with them and brought back some fun memories.
