I really need to get a Book on Photoshop CS3. I see there is suppose to be a Missing Manual by a David Pogue out in Oct. Photoshop CS3: The Missing Manual by David Pogue.
I have been watching and waiting for this book but it does not seem to be getting published. And I need a book now. I still cannot type on a picture unless I resave it in CS3 and change the resolution.
There are many other books available too. I need a basic one, that will tell what the tools do and how to use them and the layers and everything. A reference type book not too hard to understand. And I use Widows XPPro and Vista on a PC. I prefer no jokes in my reference books.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good overall book on Photoshop CS3?

Sheila,
One of the things I always recommend it to visit your local library so you can "check the book out" (pun intended) before you buy. This tip hasn't stop be from buying plenty of books but now I can be more selective about the ones I know I want.
If you're looking for basic information (tools, blend modes, selections, etc...) then you should definitely look at the CS2 books also.
Hope this helps!

The Digital Photographer's Guide to CS3 by Scott Kelby.
You know, as often as I recommend his books, I should get a commission.;)

I went to our library a month ago and asked. They have no books on the subject. So I tried to interlibrary loan. Just today one came in, after 4 weeks. It is Classroom in a Book. Not exactly what I want. But I will read through it. I have it for 2 weeks.
I have tried to get books before through interlibrary loan, one was on Lightroom. The only one I could get through the lnterlibary loan was the Scott Kelby Book. I was not happy with it. I have a couple of his books, one I like, but his one on Lightroom insulted me one too many times in the text. I think he was trying to be humorous but I was insulted.
So I gleaned what I could from it and took it back. I purchased a Rob Sheppard Book on Lightroom that is very good. So I am set for lightroom.
I now need one on CS3, I do much better if I have a reference book. I have for reference for Elements 5 The Missing Manual by Barbara Brundage. It is good.
There are so many book written on Photoshop and they are expensive. I prefer to only have 1 on each software and then use it fully.

Hi Sheila ...
It kind of depends what you want from the book ... if you want a book that will start you off with the basics then Classroom in a Book is that sort of book but if you are looking for a reference book then I would probably suggest the Photoshop Bible.

I have found The Missing Manual to be the best book for learning the ins and outs of Photoshop Elements.

Hi Sheila, I have a Borders Book store not too far away and I go there regularly and browze thru all the Photoshops books for CS2 & 3 and PSE-4,5,6 etc. I pick out my book and then go on line at borders.com and purchase it thru them generally for about half the price and usually free shipping if the order is over a certain dollar amount. when you go on line at Borders it ends up you are buying from Amazon.com which apparently Borders has a deal worked out with them. If the book is in stock and free shipping it takes around 7 days or so to receive.
Here is one I looked at : Photoshop CS-3 Essential Skills by Philip Andrews & Mark Galer. Look it up at borders and you can browze thru the index etc.
