I just got finished attending the online Adobe e-seminar “What’s New in Photoshop Elements 6.0”.

Just a few notes on:

It looks like the goal is to get the demo version available within 10 days. My opinion is wait for the tryout. Nothing like seeing it work in your own environment.

For the Organizer people, Tags are still there, but Collections are now called Albums with a Smart Album feature for organizing photos, for example, by camera used and other variables. An interesting comment was that the Organizer should hold up to 100,000 photos without skipping a beat. (My aside, if so, the beats may be slower, but how many people have 100,000 photos in the Organizer?!) For the heavy Organizer users, the consequences of a shared Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 Organizer needs looking into.

Photo books seem to demand a lot of memory, and I wonder about possible associated crashes for the Photo book people. And, I am not sure what else you can do with the created Photo book layout beside send them to Kodak for processing into books for a price.

The Photomerge feature seems to have been enhanced for panorama and “group shots”.

Quick Selection Tool (CS3 origins) looked interesting. Although not mentioned, if I am not mistaken, there should be a CS3 carryover Refine Edges feature that compliments it.

Slideshows were not gone into.

This is my initial take on what I heard and viewed. Presenter was product manager Mark Dahm. For anyone that may not be aware of it, there are Photoshop Elements 6 videos in the Learning Center here that should be checked out if thinking about upgrading.

Howdy:
I attended the seminar also but I do not use PSE Organizer I use LR. I was not very impresed but I like the selection tool. My photobooks when ever I may need them will be made by Kodak they are the best on the market OMHO.

I also watched the e-seminar and my feeling was that they are definitely
pushing the Organizer. Most of the seminar was about the Organizer. Very little on actual Full Editing features. That being said I will probably wait quite a while before considering the purchase of it, if at all.

I attended the seminar as well. I thought the it was rather disjointed, unorganized and not well planned. I also thought it was way too advanced for anyone just beginning to use photoshop elements. I use photoshop elelments 4 and am very satisfied. I do know I will have to upgrade at some point, as all the tutorials and videos are designed for PSE5 right now. I do not plan on getting PSE6 any time soon. I thought the video presentation featuring Corey and Matt on this site was excellent and easy to follow!

Smith, I completely agree with you. Currently I am using PSE5 and like if very much. I too will stick with it until I can't follow the videos on this web site anymore. Then PSE6 might be in for consideration and maybe the price will be better.

I am considering getting PSE only because it is said to be more stable on VISTA, otherwise I like PSE5 and plan to stay with it on my XP machine. Did anyone ask about VISTA?

I came to this forum because I knew I would find discussion on upgrading to PSE6 and I was not disappointed. I still feel relatively new to Elements, and I have not explored all of the features in 5 yet, much less ready to move to 6. However, I am intrigued with the possibility of a better selection tool. Has anyone out there upgraded yet? Is it worth it?

Thanks,

tmax

If you're looking for a better selection tool then PSE6 has it. The Quick Selection Tool in PSE6 works like the CS3 one and it works very well and a big improvement on the Extract Tool which has gone in PSE6 (although they left the Magic Extractor). It's one of the reasons I got PSE6 because I'd tried the CS3 one and liked how quick and easy it selected things I routinely need to select.

I, too, agree with smith that it was not very well made. And the best part for me was when the presenter said "Adjustment layers are a new addition to PSE6.":mad: Anyone else catch that?

Reka,

Yeah... I think he mis-spoke. Corey and Matt definitely show more enthusiasm and do a better job with the presentations. They've had a lot more practice, I'm sure. :)

Now you've gone and done it. You've made me want to spend some money on the upgrade;)

In all seriousness, thanks for the input, it's what I wanted to hear (of course my wallet isn't quite as thankful)

They have also added a better more adjustable RAW converter, I couldn't tell exactly from the photos but it is either similar to the one in CS3 or just like it. This is important to me as I shoot everything iin RAW.

Hi, I am new to the forum. I just upgraded to PSE 6 and it keeps closing on me. Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
Thanks

Interesting.....I'm up to 18,000 images in my organizer using PSEv5..so by next year, maybe 100,000??? Stay tuned. And ironically, my Organizer is not the clunker, it is my Editor....can be slow as grass growing at times. And with the current no. of images in organizer that I have now, I do get an intermittent ODBC disk error when trying to save an edited image from Editor to the Organizer. We will see if I get that when using v6.

I just received the upgrade. I'm finishing up client projects before installing. But the eseminar did not do anything me. Nothing out of the ordinary. But I'm excited about the RAW plug-in.....
