I have been asked to design pages for an 8x8 scrapbook for a church. They have some photos and I have some of my own. Do you charge by the page? And what determines the price? If you make scrapbook pages with embellishments, etc. is it one price for each page? And if the client just wants a photo, say with a digital frame around it, how do you charge?

The client saw an 8x8 scrapbook I made for a friend of mind, and wants some pricing for a book for the church.

I've seen prices on the net for doing books range anywhere from $20-60 a page. Most stipulate how many pictures per page their prices include.

The biggest thing when doing a scrapbook for others that you are getting paid for is making sure that you are using only your own creations or "commercial use" ones.

This pastor may want me to use some of the shots he took, but I can make my own creations out of them. Is that want you mean?

Hi Suzanne,

Any personal photos should be ok. What I think Jane is referring to is the use of any digital supplies (backgrounds, alphas, embellishments, quick pages, etc...) you may have purchased or downloaded from the Internet. All of them (and that includes FREEBIES!) that I am familiar with DO NOT include any commercial use unless you specifically purchase a separate license for each product you'll be using. Obviously anything you design is ok! Good luck with the project!

Hope this helps!

Pin down the details of what you are providing and your out of pocket costs.

Are you providing the physical album?

Are you printing the pages? at home or at a photo processor?

Will he provide you with digital photos or will you have to scan?

Can they provide you with digital or scannable logos, etc.

Will he provide bible quotes, prayers, parishoner quotes, etc. for you to use?

Are there particular themes he wants used?

Will you need to go out and take special photos?

How many pages? Will this be an ongoing thing where you update with added pages?

Make sure you charge enough to cover your out of pocket costs then add something for your time. Since you say you can use some of your own photos it sounds like it might be your own church so you probably want to cut them a break. This sounds like a fun project.

If the church has a website, you might also want to make a web gallery of the book. My mom made an 8x8 scrapbook for my uncle's 80th birthday and I scanned it and put it on our family reunion website.
