I have Elements 5.0 and I want to creat brushes, jpeg and png. files that will work in Photoshop as well as versions of Elements. Is that possible? Is there anything special I need to do to make them compatible with Photoshop?
Thanks for any help & tips!

Hi Cherry
.. and welcome to the forum :)
Photoshop & Elements share the same brush engine so brushes are generally compatable. However when you are creating brushes Photoshop allows you to add a lot more options to the brush itself than Elements does :)

Thanks for the welcome! Do you mind giving me an example of the options Photoshop has for brushes that Elements doesn't? I will be making lots and lots of them. I am considering getting Photoshop but I wonder if there will be a huge learning curve for me, if it will be a big setback. If one has somewhat mastered Elements, will the mechanics of Photoshop still be a big struggle (for lack of a better word)? I have heard Photoshop has a huge learning curve. Thanks so much for your input!!!

Hi, Cherry. Welcome!
For me, the biggest diff between PS & PSE is that PS seems to hide some of the more basic features under layers of menus, while PSE puts them right out for us to explore.
You can download a free trial of Photoshop from Adobe's web site and give it a test drive!

Hi Cherry ...
When you create a brush in Elements all you can do it make a shape and save it as a brush ... Photoshop allows you to adjust the options for spacing, shape dynamics, scattering, texture, dual brush, colour dynamics, other dynamics, noise, wet edges, airbrush, smoothing and protect texture ...
Then once you have done some or all of those you can save the brush with those options set. That means you can create special effect brush sets ready for people to use.
Elements can use those sort of brushes but it can't create and save them.
Wendy :)
