Is there going to be an October Mega Challenge?

AngelicKim
October 1st, 2007, 05:33 PM
Shellb, I think I read that the next one will probably be in November with a holiday theme.

Wags374
October 1st, 2007, 05:47 PM
Well if someone else wants to coordinate one in October it wouldn't hurt my feelings any. :) I'd be happy to run one in early Nov if y'all want to come up with a theme. We could do more quick pages, or another mega kit, or sketches or whatever.....

Or maybe for October I could do a weekly sketch challenge.... templates/sketches are low resolution and can be handled through pixentral.

Hmmmmm .... I like the idea of a holiday/winter theme kit.

Could also consider doing card designs ... keep text generic if added.
Possibly ...... Happy Holidays ...... Seasons Greetings ...... At this Time of Year ....Etc.

Just some thoughts.

If anyone wanted to do a mini one for October, here are some of the things about the month of October. (I just included some that I didn't know.)

Flower is the Calendula (marigold)
It is Apple month
It is Caramel month
It is Computer Learning Month
It is Dessert month
It is Kitchen & Bath month
It is pasta month
October 12 is World Egg Day
October 30 is Candy Corn Day

WOW! Really doin your October homework!:D World Egg Day, I love it.:D

October 1st, 2007, 11:52 PM
I had a lot of thoughts pop into my mind reading some of them. For instance, someone taking a picture of a desert and using that for colors, etc. Or practicing how to make an egg, etc. I even had one thought pop through my head of me going around and taking pictures of the different kinds of pasta. Yep, they would probably kick me out of the grocery store, but there are a lot of cool colors, shapes, and texture with pasta!!

I love the card idea. I saw on another website a cookie exchange. People did layouts of their favorite cookies and included the recipe. We could do a whole cookie cookbook! I'm motivated for whatever! :)

LOL - We would need someone like you to provide the basic pasta photos and then we could manipulate them into things... I see lasagna noodles used a borders, you have your pasta that look like ribbons and bows...

Don't forget that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month...and the obvious Halloween! :-)

Just a thought on the previous post about breast cancer, as pink is the colour associated with the battle for awareness and fundraising.......how about a challenge to create some pink papers and elements?
Just my 2 cents worth :D

This thread has gotten pretty interesting. I have to second jojo on Amanda's idea for the Breast Cancer Awareness. Maybe we could put it together and talk to Wendy, Robin and Nancy or anyone else at DDD and see if we could donate the kit to them and all proceeds they make off the kit could go to the Susan B Koman Foundations or some other Breast Cancer Foundation.

The idea for the Breast Cancer Awareness is a great idea !!!!!

Funny ... I just had my very first mammogram today.

Girly pink papers and embellishments could be fun.

We need someone to organize it and get info from Jane on how to get it set up at VioVio.

Any volunteers?

Wags374
October 2nd, 2007, 08:29 PM
I'll check with Viovio about hosting it. We are using up a lot of space right now with the Mega kit - so we might have to wait until that is cleared out before we can start uploading a new one. But Sunday is the last day for the Mega kit to be available for download so it wouldn't really affect things.

That would be great! Just remember if we do that we have to be positive that everything in it is personal creations or commercial license items. I'll have to check with Viovio - they might be able to handle the sales end of it too.

Viovio is willing to host and can help us out with selling a benefit kit as well if we decide to go that direction.

Also, they have a wiki page about Photoshop Elements (http://www.viovio.com/wiki/Adobe+Photoshop+Elements)that could use some fleshing out. Was wondering if any of you would like to contribute your opinion/knowledge/experience with Elements.

Jane, thanks for checking that. Now how do we go about getting this started and set up? Since there haven't been any volunteers as yet I will throw my hat into the ring give it a shot. I think the sooner we get started the better.

Okay, so is the challenge just "PINK"?

AngelicKim
October 3rd, 2007, 02:50 PM
The theme would be Breast Cancer Awareness. The main color would be pink. I have seen many different shades of pink used in breast cancer ads. I have seen reds, maroon and mauve and others in the that color range with black, white and gold accent colors.

Should we have a color palette like we had for the Sept Kit? or everyone just do their own thing?

Edit: palette idea

I was thinking a color palette again so the colors are alike. I will look into some colors tonight or in the morning. If anyone has any colors they want to suggest please do. I will also start a new thread as soon I Jane gives me the details and we get a color palette together. I have to start getting things together for my sons football game tonight so I will be back later to if anyone has any colors they want to use.

Edit: Amanda, those colors are just what I had in mind with maybe a couple of darker ones too.

jojo99
October 3rd, 2007, 06:31 PM
Wow, lots happening in this thread since I logged off last night :-)
I'm tickled pink the suggestion by Amanda and myself has sparked such interest. (excuse the pun)

As someone in the high-risk group I would be thrilled to take part in this challenge and would love to see it making some cash for such a good cause.

As for the colour scheme I think silver and grey go quite well with pink so maybe one or both of these might be considered for the palette.

I'm up for helping if you need an extra pair of hands :-)

Some of the colours from The Breast Cancer Site webpage ...

I like jojo's idea of the silvery or grey for accents. A nice off-white would be nice too.

I think those 6 colors would make for plenty of variety. And silver would be a good metal color for them.

We can do this just like the Autumn Challenge is you want. Email me 4 (only 4 please) items to show intent to participate and I'll send you the info and password for the new gallery.

If we come up with a name for this kit right away I can even give the gallery that name. :)

Hmmmmmm ..... maybe something like ....

Pink is for Power ??
Pink Awareness ???
Power Pink ????
Awareness is Pink ????
Pink is Survival ???

I not very creative today ...... somebody can probably think of something better. Just to get the ideas rolling.

I have the time if y'all pitch in like you did for the challenge that just ended. :) (Which I most gratefully appreciated!!!)

At present I'm still working two part-time jobs - so my life is a little hectic right now. Hopefully by the end of the year I will be able to just do my part-time consultanting for Vivoio. Just paid off the medical bills from the last round of tests in June and have a new round of tests scheduled in a few weeks, to make sure they got everything the first time and nothing new has poped up. I am so not looking forward to that!

My cancer scare and my father-in-law's 4 different types of cancer diagnosis makes any sort of cancer benefit one that has a lot of meaning. I don't have much money to donate to the cause, but I figure I can donate my time and talents.

AngelicKim
October 4th, 2007, 12:15 AM
Jane, I do hope all goes well with the next round of test. With just loosing my Dad 6 weeks ago to Lung Cancer this one is dear to me as well. I also lost an Aunt, my Dad's sister to Breast Cancer several years ago and have other family members and friends who have had bouts with it and are cancer free today. I will definately help out as much as possible.

What a super idea you ladies have come up with, I'd certainly like to contribute to such a worthy cause in any way I can.

Power in Pink or just Pink Power ? Pink Energy? Think Pink?

Kathy
October 4th, 2007, 08:09 AM
For another great way to further the cause, just click at the breast cancer site each day to fund free mammograms for women in need. It only takes a second and costs you nothing . Here is the link...

Pat ...... I like "Think Pink" ..... great ring to it and reminds us what the pink is for

NMarti
October 4th, 2007, 10:42 AM
Hi folks
As you know I am a designer now (well at least I think I am  ) and am also a breast cancer survivor. Having just had a second scare this summer I am very much a supporter of mammograms. It caught the first one and also indicated the second one though - thank God - it was not cancer. I would be more than happy to donate items to your kit. We actually discussed a kit at the Den but it would not have gotten done in time for the October recognition so it was sort of put off until next year.

Wags374
October 4th, 2007, 10:57 AM
Glad to see so many are willing to help out with this. It is going to be cutting it close to get this done in Oct so we probably should set an early end date so we have it ready to sell by the middle of the month.

How about an end date of the 15th? - then with a little luck it can all be zipped and ready for sale by the 17th (of course I better check with the Viovio folks - don't want to promise a spot in the store before it would actually be ready.)

jojo99
October 4th, 2007, 01:54 PM
Welcome to the challenge Nancy, it's great to have you on board :-)

Jane, the 15th sounds good to me, that gives everyone 2 weekends to work on items for the kit.

I wonder if there are a few online scrapbooking stores who usually sell for charity who would be willing to sell the kit for us and give most or all of the money to the charity?

Of course you can count me in. Though for me October means Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I certainly understand the importance of finding a cure. We have a very dear friend fighting cancer right now and I have been saddened too many times after reading threads on this forum about people here going through the same thing. I think it's a wonderful idea!

Wags374
October 4th, 2007, 03:02 PM
Yes this is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month (http://dvam.vawnet.org/)- if memory serves the ribbon color for that is lavender.

Jo - if we can find a place that will sell it all for charity that would be great. Otherwise Viovio will be happy to host it and donate all the proceeds. We would just have to get the word out to folks on where to go to buy it.

grammom
October 4th, 2007, 03:14 PM
I would think if we contact one of the blogs that lists freebies, they would be happy to list ours--whether it's hosted on Viovio or somewhere else. It would be nice if the sweet folks here would put a link to it on the home page. (hint, hint ;))

They work for me. :)

Did we ever decide on a name? If so, maybe we should start a thread by that name.

"Think Pink" is good, but it is a very common Mary Kay slogan. Wouldn't want to confuse anyone. :D (not that there is anything at all wrong with Mary Kay - and they do support the SGK Foundation.)

We would not want to get confused with Mary Kay or run into any legal issues ....

The Power of Pink is another that popped in my head. I do like the Scraps of Pink though since it is a scrapbook kit.

So if we are using colors from post 30 are we also using black, white, gold and silver for accent colors, etc.

Glad you both like it. I don't think black and white were meant to be included, they were'nt in the last kit (I think).
Silver is in as far as I know for the metal colour.

It's gone 2am here so I'm off to bed and I'll check in tomorrow to see what has been decided.
Enjoy the rest of your evening :-)

when the colors are straight will someone be so kind as to make a color pallet like in the last challenge i unfortunately remember off hand who did that and told us how to add this to our color swatches but it really made it very easy. I hope i can join in on this it is a fantastic idea.

This sounds like a really good idea guys. I just got past a cancer scare myself only it was uterin and not breast. Thank God it was not cancer. But hey it was just as scary. I have never made any elements, I have been wanting to learn and now is as good a time as any and I will give it my best shot.
1. Could someone please tell me if there will be a color pallet and how to use it.
2. Are we limited in the amount of elements that we create?
3. What is our deadline?
and
4. When I have finished my elements could someone please instruct me on how to upload them:rolleyes:?

Angela

AngelicKim
October 4th, 2007, 11:39 PM
Angela, the color palette is on post #30 (page # of this thread). There is only a minimum of 4 items that you send to Jane and she will give you and link and password to upload. You can make as many elements as you want, you just have to send 4 to Jane to qualify. You upload those yourself. The deadline for this one is the 15th. Jane will be starting a new thread for this whole thing probably tomorrow since it appears we now have a name "Scraps of Pink". Keep an eye out for it. The thread will give you all the details of what to do. If not just ask and we will answer any questions you have.
