I friend has asked me to transfer a power point of photos from a CD to a DVD - so it can be played on a DVD player. I assume I can't just copy the powerpoint from the CD to the DVD and expect it to play in a DVD player.
This project is low resolution and poorly done and not worth doing so I'm looking at a quick way of accomplishing this without alot of work.
I have PSE4 and I have the full-blown Nero.
I could reinstall Photoshop Premiere Elements 2 if I need that.

Hi Janice,
You're quite right - a Powerpoint presentation won't play in a DVD player.
I think you'll have to build a slide show that you then burn to DVD.
Do you have Powerpoint itself? You'd need to use that to extract the photos from the presentation first.
Alternatively, there are some software packages that apparently do the job, but I'm not aware of any that are free.

I do have power point - and I figured I'd have to extract the photos - but is it as simple as copy/paste every "page"?
Alternately, can I just make a wmv out of the power point

Something else you might try ... if you can find a screen recorder for the PC (such as Snapz Pro for the Mac), you can play the PowerPoint slide show and let your computer record it uninterrupted. This will result in a movie that can then be brought into your DVD.
I apologize for not being as familiar with the PC side. On my Mac, I've done this with the above-mentioned software, which creates a QuickTime movie. This is easily brought into iDVD or Roxio Toast for creating a DVD that does play on a DVD player.
Perhaps someone with more experience can suggest software that will work on the PC.

Windows XP Microsoft Office 2003 PE2/PSE4Well, there's software around that will make a WMV from a Powerpoint presentation, for example here (http://www.ppt-to-dvd.com/ppt-to-video-overview.html). But it costs $50, and the 30-day free trial imposes a watermark. :(
If you use Powerpoint to extract the photos, you need to right click on each image to select it and bring up the context menu, which has an option to "Save as Picture". I believe that then gives you a copy of the original photo file that was imported, at its native size, rather than the rescaled version that appears on the page.
So a somewhat tedious session of clicking and saving would regenerate the original image files that were used, and you then proceed as though you were building a slideshow from scratch.
I don't know anything about the screen recorder route Tricia has suggested, I'm afraid.

Got it
I selected a slide in my power point presentation and choose "save as" jpg - and it gave me the option of saving all the slides at one time.
I then opened a slideshow project and placed those slides into the project.
It was quite simple - however, my slideshow VCD was kinda sucky - it wanted to pixelate on the TV - so I just saved to wmv and will now try burning a DVD with Nero.
I agreed to do this even though the end product would not be very good quality - which you can only imagine drives me nuts - but I needed to refamiliarize myself with slideshows and Nero DVD burning again anyway.
Thanks for the input and help. I'm off to make a DVD.

Excellent!!!
It was nagging in the back of my mind when I wrote the last message that I'd seen an option to save all the photos at once, but I couldn't track down where.
Glad you're sorted.

It didn't allow me to "select all" and then choose save as jpg - I had to choose only one slide and then it asked me whether I wanted to save all.
I created my DVD from a wmv - no more pixelating and jumping.
Success.
Thanks guys - jumping into problem solving before dawn - a better way than coffee to jump start the morning.

Found that PSE4 would let me open the power point and select a page - then select save as jpg - it then kindly offered to do all the slides in the power point - I then used PSE4 to create a slideshow from the pages.
Not as simple as your software, but worth the extra effort not to have another program on my computer - since I doubt this will ever come up again.

I've had good luck creating a slide show for DVD using Microsoft Photo Story 3. It's a free download from Microsoft that allows you to import photos, add text, set transitions & timings - it will even create music for you or allow you to add your own. Once you're satisfied with the project, it will create a Windows Movie File (.wmv) which you can then burn to a DVD.

Hella!!
I think that VisiPPT is probably the best program to turn your presentation into a very popular video and Flash files.Great tool!;)
