Slow Running Premiere - Help

I'm finding that Premiere Elements is running really slow for me. Especially when adding transitions & scene markers. I have about 20 minutes of mostly photos with some video clips in my project as well.

Can I have some general recommendations what would be causing this...or whats the best configuration to run Premiere Elements "in general". I have Pentium 4 computer with 1 GB RAM.

I have assumed that you are running Premiere Elements 3 on Window XP. Have you been defragmenting your system and do not have unnecessary programs running in the background?????
