I take photos of artwork with my Canon S2 IS.

Sometimes, the frames are curved out in the image. How can I correct that barrel-distortion using PE?

I have PE 2 and PE 3.

I get the elliptical marquee and make a circle or oval across the distorted area then I give it a large feather ...
Next I do Filter>Distort>Spherize and use a low minus setting (try about 6 ??)
Wendy

Thanks, Wendy. The "Spherize" filter looks like it will do the trick for me.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the "Shperize" filter. I have PE 3. Under "Filters" => "Distort", I only have "Diffuse Glow", "Glass" and "Ocean Ripple".

Where can I obtain the "Spherize" filter? How do I add it?

Hi David ...

Oh you should have a lot more options that that under Filter>Distort ... here is what I have:

Try deleting the prefs ...

To do that close down Elements then click on the Editor start up icon and quickly hold down the Control, Alt and Shift keys (Mac users: Command, Option and Shift). Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes. You do have to be quick holding down the keys so if you have problems with it try holding down the keys with one hand before you click on the icon :)

Hope that sorts it out :)

Wendy,

That did the trick. Thank you.

What might I have done to lose so many of my filters?

Hi David ...

Elements is prone to corruption in the prefs file and when it does get corrupt then all sorts of strange things happen.

The corruption can occur if Elements is working on something and you click around the screen at the same time .. but also every now & then it just happens for no good reason at all :)

Wendy,

Thanks for the alert, and for the secret key strokes.
