using?
I had been using an Epson Stylus, but it died recently. I absolutely love the photo quality that this printer offered and the printer itself is very reasonable. But, the toner! Good grief, I often thought I would have to sell a kidney. :)
I'm curious as to what printers everyone here is using or suggests?

DON'T SELL A KIDNEY!
Printing at home is not cheap. The ink cartridges run dry pretty quickly if you print a lot.
I had an Epson R800 which I used and liked for several years, but it started to be more trouble than it was worth -- and cleaning the heads wasn't working. I couldn't print on cardstock -- it wouldn't feed from the top. And black and white always had a red fringe until I did a head clening (which uses lots of ink).
Now I have a Canon Pro9000. It prints on paper up to 13x19 and has a manual feed for heavy papers. So far I like it, but it is a big, heavy machine! and noisy, too!

Hi, ZC_Mom, and welcome to the forum!
My 12 year old  HP Office jet recently quit reliably printing color, so I was printer shopping as well. I just bought an HP 5250. It will scan to 4800 x 4800 and produces gorgeous BORDERLESS prints. I printed som borderless, full-color 8 x 10s last night and they came out of the printer lickety-split quick. Something that sounds fun, but I'm not sure I'll ever use, is the abilitiy to also print to CD/DVD media (special media with pre-affixed labels required).
After just a week I'm very happy with it. Bonus - it even came with the USB cable in the box and some photo paper and printable CD samples.
To echo Jo, if I have lots of pix, I'm of to Walgreen's, but this is working well for hang-on-the-fridge pictures and other projects of a similar nature.

Thank you both! I'm in the process of creating 2008 calendars for the grandparents and it is loaded with pictures. I'll definitely look into the printers you mentioned!

I use the HP 8750 and the HP 2110xi all in one.....both do very well..I'm planning on upgrading to the HP Pro9180B so that I can do fine art printing. However, I do outsource most of my work....75% or more.

I also have the Epson R800 - it does beautiful work. I had a Canon i950 a few years back that also did beautiful work. It died an early death, however.
Yes, ink is way too expensive and with all the sites for off site printing now becoming available, it is getting easier and easier to print outside the home. However, I'm always tweaking, so for now - I'll continue to buy my expensive ink.
I am not a fan of HP - I looked over their new machine when the HP guy was at Office Depot, but I was not impressed even when I had his help while doing the samples.
As for multi-function machines. I love them, however, everyone keeps pointing out that if one function of the the machine goes, you're out of luck. Plus, if you buy a multi-function machine, not every function of the machine will be the highest available. I think I'll stick to a scanner and printer - individual machines.

Welcome,
I've been real happy with our hp7960 for several years now.
However, I've been real happy getting things printed via Shutterfly or Sam's club (no costco close).
although I've wanted big time one of the new large size printers, don't think I will due to ink/paper cost.

I use a Canon i9900.
I've had it for about 6 months and I'm very happy with it.

If you have a store that will allow you to upload your pictures (Costco, Walmart to name a couple) I would recommend that you forget the printer. You can never print it as cheap as their cost. However, you will have to live with their cropping which for the most part is correct. The only issues I have run into is when I typed something toward the bottom or put my own frame around it and it failed to show up or was cut off. (Currently experimenting with 3.8 x 5.8 crop.) I was given a printer as a gift and really wish that I had not received it but I guess with the rebate it didn't really cost anything. I use it once every couple of months and have to clean the print heads so it isn't very economical for me. Of course a printer is instant gratification.

I have a canon i860 and love it. I only use it for proofs and quick jobs due to ink cost. It's cheaper to have a lab do the printing.

I have an Epson RX320 and an RX620 and both do fantastic jobs on everything...I don't have any complaints except the price of ink. At work I have an HP that uses the Vivera ink...it prints beautifully, and the ink is fairly reasonable.
Someday I would love a wide format printer but can't justify it right now...:)
