I am wondering what you think would be the best way to fix the lower right corner (background) so it matches the upper left background. Basically I want to get rid of the hand etc. and make it look like a white background throughout.

How would I do that so it looks similar to the rest of the picture?

To answer the question: select the area in the lower right and delete it. Then sample just above for the shade and fill the blank area with that shade of gray. This is best done with the selection still active and feathered (2 pixels). Use the clone stamp to blend it all together.
