Ok I have a really simple question I was looking at some gallerys and I saw that they have a frame inside the image I was wondering how do do that because I just can't figure it out and I have searched this site up and down for it..... I am not talking about a border around the outside of the image but physically in the image I can't figure out how to do it...

Can anyone help??

Hey Thomas

I'm not sure what photos you are referring to but one way would be to make a selection on a blank layer (using your pic as a guide)...stroke it (edit>stroke outline) and apply the frame style to that.

I'm not sure if thats what you are after or not. If not let us know.

You need to make a selection of that part you want to add the frame to and then put it on it's own layer (ctrl+J) and then apply the wow style. Use the rectangular marquee around the inside and do a 'select inverse'.

OK good, now right click ' select inverse'...or go to toolbar>Select>inverse. You will see that the outer edge is now selected. On keyboard do a Ctrl + J or toolbar>layer>new layer via copy. Now that it is on it's own layer you can apply any style that you wish.

Oh...well that changes things...I guess I didn't know that was the effect you were looking for...for that effect just make a recatngular marquee selection on a new layer above your image and right click >Stroke ( Edite>stroke) and choose pixel width and color. Then apply the style of choice.

Jodi on this same photo, I know how to select the inner portion on this but how do you select and fade out the backout portion?

You want the edges to fade out ? One way would be to create a new blank layer above your image and do a Ctrl+A to select it and then right click>stroke ( Edit>Stroke ) choose white or a light color of choice and as far as pixel size this would depend on the size of your image....anywhere from 50 px to 200px, center, click OK and deselect. Then go to filter>blur>gaussian blur and then move the slider until you get the effect you want.

OR

Create a new layer above the image, make a selection around the inside about an inch from the edge and apply a feather to the selection (right click>feather or Select>feather) around 50+ depending on the size of your image>select inverse>fill with color of choice with paint bucket or Alt+Backspace for foreground color or Ctrl + Backspace for background color.

OR

Make that exact same selection as above on your actual image(make sure you do the inverse edge) and then do a ctrl+J to put the selection on it's own layer above the image and then filter>blur>gaussian blur. To lighten it reselect the ayer (hold down control key and click on layer in layers palette) and use either a brightness/contast adjustmant layer or levels adjustment layer or even the shadow highlight option....whatever you like the look of.

there are other ways...but let's start with those...
