Two weeks ago I went to a large mountain biking event and took 4400 pictures with my Nikon D50 . I batch processed them with PSE5.0 on my desktop and also saved them all to my new laptop with Vista installed .
The problem I am having on the laptop is that in some , not all , of the folders [ downloaded from the built in card reader ] PSE can't batch process them because of an error :
" Embedded ICC profile cannot be used because the ICC Profile description is invalid . Ignoring the profile " . I click on the message and then the picture opens . If I try to batch process though it doesn't happen because of the fault , everything just stops at the first picture it tries to open .
I go to another folder , taken with the same camera and settings , and it works ?
I am wondering if this is a Vista issue or what could have gone wrong and maybe how I can fix the problem by telling PSE not to worry about colour profiles that are invalid .

Hi Desmond,
Hope I can help. From your description I think the problem is in the camera
settings.. The D50 changes color mode when you go from Auto to P or
S on the top setting dial.
If you want to set up a test case - take 3 pictures in a row ( of nothing
in particular ) then display each of them in turn while displaying the EXIF
data in the display. Look in the field 'color, hue' and you will see it
change the profile all by itself regardless of where it had been set on the menu controls...
HTH...... Tom :)

That does help to explain things quite a bit because I was jumping between modes . What it doesn't explain though is why all 4400 pictures batch processed on my desktop on PSE5.0 while it doesn't work on the laptop !

Hello again Desmond;
Did you check the color settings on both systems, are they the same ?
Organizer > Edit > Color Settings....

All three are set at "optimise for computer screens . I tried setting it to "no colour management " but got the same error so set it back to "optimise for computer screens ." . I Just tried opening the same pictures on my old laptop and it works perfectly .

Hi Desmond;
Well, I have just about exhausted my ideas. There are many talented
people on the forum that will pick up on this thread and try to help.
One last suggestion would be to look at the Microsoft site and/or the
Adobe site..
Good luck, if you get the answer post here as you may be first but not last.

I have found one thing different here , on my desktop when I did a "save as" the box for ICC profile was ticked , on the desktop that box was not ticked . I have ticked it now and hopefully won't get the same fault again .
