View Full Version : Challenge #243

I thought life was to become less complicated as I retired! I posted the challenge last night just before I went out to a party. After the event I dropped Doreen off and decided to go back out and take some photographs. I got home and forgot that I hadn't posted the challenge announcement. So with apologies this is the late announcement.
I reached into my Challenge Tickle Trunk and came up with a suggestion that Wendy Williams made a while back. it is a great one and I am not sure why I over looked it in the past. So do Wendy's work justice and have fun doing this one.

The old two-decker bus certainly pushed us on our way to some great
images this week.
ALEX B: The background recreation and re-placement of the image
elements are great.
ELLEN H: I like the woodsy relocation of the bus -- some watercolor
filter in there, too?
FRANK Z: Nice colored line drawing effect.
LISA B: I got a kick out of the 'news' vignettes.
MALCOLM D: The couple in front of the old building fit right in with
the desaturated bus.
MARIA EB: I like the idea of transforming the bus into a toy.
Interesting visual effect -- solarization, perhaps?
MARIA S: Great to see all the guys again!
MARILYN L: Love your elegant women -- the sweep of confetti up the
stair is a great visual effect.
MARK R: Nice step extension.
RALPH H: The Matchbox/Hotwheels cars make just the right context for
the bus -- and the photographer's reflection fits right in.
RITA G: The ghostly bus from Harry Potter? -- neat effect.
RED S: Neat us of the bus signs on the old store front. Did the old
guy collapse while chasing the tire or has he just had one too many?
SHARI M: Nice appearance variant.

* Alex: I'm always amazed at your interventions - something so simple-looking and yet so brilliant. I always watch your images as a kind of slideshow, just to see the various elements appear, disappear and get transformed against the background...
* Bob: Wonderful job of reconstructing the font, and using the child's figure to create a scene that is magical and realistic at the same time.
* Ellen: I had to google Rizla... :p A nice mixture of humor and style.
* Frank Z: I like how you faded out the background and accentuated the red and green colours.
* Lisa: I couldn't help laughing out loud! Great ideas. :D
* Malcolm: Perfect integration of the bus in the old photograph! Stylish and atmospheric.
* Marie S: A tribute to the history of the Challenge... Another lovely humorous composition.
* Marilyn: Interesting use of the bus ladder in a completely different setting. I like how the white of the dress contrasts against the dominant deep red tones.
* Mark: Another interesting use of the ladder, in a discrete but very cunning intervention.
* Ralph: I had to look for the bus among the other cars. Very clever idea!
* Rita: The black & white, the clouds of mist and the number 3 at the back create a really spooky ambience...
* Red Sky: Amazing blend of macabre and surrealist humor!
* Shari: Nice work with the darker tones. Is this bus stranded in the middle of nowhere? :p

Bob, looks like we were posting at about the same time. :D
Yes, the effect I used is solarization with some blending mode that I don't remember now. :p
Thank you very much for your comment! :)

Thankyou and Maria! I want an antique cracked paint appearance, just didn't turn out quiet the way I wanted. This was only me second time trying Grant's challenge, so I am learning still! Please be patient with me, my imagination seems to be at a stand still!

Bob,
Would you believe I had Sartre's Hell in "No Exit" in mind? Well, it's 50 years since I saw it. Apparently it turned out to be quite versatile.
Maria,
yours looks kind of eerie too, for a toy. I like the way you softened the colors.
Thank you both for reviewing.

Bob and Maria,
thank you both for your reviews of all the images :)
they make very good reading.
Rita,
Sartre's hell does make a lasting impression doesn't it, that play, 'Huis clos', was one of the books I had to do in first year French and still remember.

Bob, you're most welcome! :)
Rita, many thanks! Indeed, I had in mind an old Twilight Zone episode, in which an entire city turns out to be a scale model among an alien child's toys... :D
Lisa, thank you for the kind words! As always, it was a pleasure looking at everyone's interpretations. :)

Thanks Bob, I mostly just fiddled with blend modes and channels.
Thank you too Maria, I thought it odd to have an ad for rolling papers on a bus so i took it to a marijuana farm.
It really is good of you both to take the time and care to comment on everyone's work, it is much appreciated by me and everyone else I'm sure.
