I've used PSE 4.0 to make several travel slideshow DVDs including still images, video clips, background audio, and narration. I'm now ready to take the next step and will probably buy the bundled PSE 6 and PE 4 that was just announced. I have a very basic question that probably falls into the PE function area. Can I edit a digital camera movie clip (avi format) so that I can do a fade-in, fade-out effect of the clip itself, not counting what I can do with the transition between movie clips?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The primary role of Premiere Elements is as a video editor, in contrast to the primary role of Photoshop Elements being a photo editor.

Premiere Elements is not meant just as a route to a DVD-VIDEO of your Photoshop Elements slideshow. What version of Premiere Elements do you currently have?

Whichever version, check out your system requirements as well as the Import/Export Files supported by the version that you have. The DV AVI should be editable on the Timeline in Premiere Elements, adding fade in/out for volume or opacity, etc. at the beginning and end of your movie clip.

Check out the routes to splitting of the clip if need be for your specific task, such as Razor Tool, etc.

I have not have any experience with the new Premiere Elements 4.0 yet. I have been using Photoshop Elements 3.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0 on Windows XP.

Post again if I have missed the point of your question.

ATR-

The fade-in, fade-out functions of PE 3 (and I assume PE 4) for both opacity and volume of film clips is exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you very much for your help.
