After a great week of looking for letters we need a theme that's a real gas. Neon is a gas!

The theme for this week is neon.

The fine print:

Everyone is invited to participate.
Because the purpose of the weekly theme is to get us more familiar with our cameras and to sharpen our photographic skills, entries should be taken during the week of the theme.
Photoshopping is allowed.
To make this thread more manageable to view, please post only your entries in this thread. Post your comments in the accompanying 'comment' thread.

This was a tough one as I'm currently in the neon wilderness - great for moon shots but not even a street light within 10 miles. Had to drive 20 miles for the nearest neon sign and wasn't planning to stick around for dark so faked a night shot. This isn't neon country so any sign round here is pretty conservative but the restaurant is a good one if you don't mind having their TV cooking show reruns playing on the big screen TV's ("Who is Coming to Dinner" is the show which I've never seen except while dining here).

Unlike Tony, I only had to drive one mile tonight :)

It's about time I posted something. I drew total blanks for the past two weeks.

This was about a two block walk from my house!

You'd like this place Rusty ... it's owned and run by Wisconsin ex-pats. Packer fans to the hilt ... every Packer game is on TV and the place is decorated in Wisconsin memorabilia. Totally crazy on game day. The menu is basically Wisconsin Friday fish fry all the time! Point and Leinies on tap. The only downside is the ice cream, which is excellent, but not custard.:D

I like old signs, and simply love old neon signs. And yes, I would marry neon if it were legal in my state (are you scratching your head saying "huh?") if I could!
I was in the town of Wenatchee, Wa. today and saw this old gem. I'm sure many a staggering folk have been illuminated by this light over the years.

I have more that I will post if this topic stalls, but who doesn't love neon?

I love neon too, but maybe wouldn't marry it. This town has historic areas that have a lot of restrictions and somehow neon and Victorian don't pass the PTB. So I had to mash up 3 small signs of my evening.

Some neon looks good even when dark, as I think this sign does. It seems to be a combination of Flinstones and Jetsons! Would you say early 1960's?

Snagged this from my husband's personal garage/clubhouse (No Girls Allowed!) when he wasn't looking. The neon clock is in a 2 1/2 car garage he built exclusively in which to house his mistress (a 1995 Dodge pickup). The truck is the ONLY thing in it. Guys... can you explain this to me?????

I'm going for three images here (maybe four) since others seem to be too scared to proclaim their love of neon as I have (Ellen did, but she's not willing to marry it.) ;) The best neon have a mixture of neon and argon gas, which give motion within the glass tubes, but those are harder to find.

These are "Welcome" signs to me. They say, "Come on in."

OK, here's one more, unless I see another on the way home, which will probably happen. I'm a bit tired of all those modern "Open" neon signs in businesses that are sold at Costco. This one flashes, and conveys a yester-year feel.

Apparently living in a college town has the benefit of LOTS of available neon.

Although I did learn that college kids are a little unsettled when someone who looks like a mom shows up in front of the bar with a camera!

My favorite neon sign from last night's campus excursion...Chinese neon!

At least I'm assuming it's Chinese as it was hanging in the window of a Chinese restaurant!

This isn't neon like you would think of neon - but it is neon.

A high school electronics class project that still works after XX (that's not Roman for 20) years! The lamps blink at various intervals determined by the resistor values. It appears random when they all get going. This was a timed exposure to get them all lit.

Here's another I saw today in Newport Oregon. I was attacted by the neon (yes ... and the promise of caffeine) and the name, but then I saw the open sign for the drive thru lane too! A triple winner!

I may go back tonite to see what it looks like in the dark ... without the HVAC unit on the roof showing.
