Judy - You beat me to the punch. Hope you found the theme ok ... we'll look forward to your entry!

Bamagirl - Nice crisp image ... nicely done.

Tony - That looks great ... doesn't look faked at all. Sounds like you're in a wonderful spot.

Rusty - Very nicely done. Lots of fun shapes in there!

Now that it's getting dark in some timezones we're getting some entries. Don't feel left out if you're not a night person ... I took some daytime neon shots yesterday and they turned out ok.

Hope to see lots of fun entries again this week!!

Love the photos of the old neon signs. I expect to hear them sputtering and blinking every once in awhile!

I'm hoping my daughter's eclectic neighbor has his garage door open one night this week. The guy must have twenty neon signs in the place and they've all been on whenever I've seen the door open!

Daughter was a little skeptical when I asked her to give me a call if she notices the neighborhood neon explosion this week. I tried to explain, but she was shaking her head and muttering things about her momma needing to get a life!

Lorri,

Go over and ask him to open the door. If he has twenty or so signs in his garage, he'll be thrilled at the idea that somebody wants to photograph them

Lorri-I think that Rusty is right- and we'd love to see them. Of course that may cause your daughter a bit more concern....

Steven - I might marry Stan; (though the beer signs call me too.) Nice ones!

Every one's modern ones are very fun; how hard is it to make those things anyway?

Ellen- I have a feeling Stan is no longer around. How can you live in a town that restricts neon?
I recently got an email from Rick Larson regarding another matter; is he your congressional representative too? Perhaps I can ask him to lift PT's neon supression? That or you could move to Sequim.:D

Steven- Norm Dicks is our guy in congress and he's good at tossing historic and maritime money this way. There was some nice neon in Port Angeles, I should go see if it's still around. Sequim sort of went for the false front look until they gave up and got the big box triangle:(

To be completely off topic have you seen the movie Smells Like Money? The movie about the GP mill? It's here at the film festival (this is such a festive place)

Drove by the neon neighbor's house last night--garage door was up, signs weren't on and the well lit gun case showing through the front window was enough to convince me he might not welcome late evening callers.

I did, however, hit pay dirt on the local college campus. Neon is alive and well in the twenty-something age bracket.

I was actually looking for a neon girlie sign on one of our local strip joints. Apparently the sign has deteriorated with age and is no longer being used. Mr. Lorri was relieved. He maintains that, like campus bars, no one will welcome a wife type with a camera outside of a strip joint.

Lorri - "Although I did learn that college kids are a little unsettled when someone who looks like a mom shows up in front of the bar with a camera!" and
"Mr. Lorri was relieved. He maintains that, like campus bars, no one will welcome a wife type with a camera outside of a strip joint."

That is so funny! You are very brave, too, I might add! :p

And Steven - making a grand admission such as wishing to marry neon if it were legal? Very brave, as well! The first step to recovery is admitting you need help! :D

I'm enjoying everyone's pictures so much! We're a little light on the neon in my neck of the woods.

Lorri,

If you really want to clean out a room - go INSIDE a college bar with a camera :D

Once our daughters began attending the local university, Mr. L. and I vowed not to enter any bars within staggering distance of the campus. Pleased our daughters no end as they had always subscribed to the theory that if we didn't see it, they didn't do it.

And, Kim, it wasn't bravery, it was cluelessness!!

Lorri,

When my daughter went off to U of Wisconsin I had to drive back two weeks later to bring more stuff she asked for. I noticed a little card taped to the wall by the door. Written from top to bottom was, "Monday, Tuesday, Wed" ... you get the picture. Next to each day was the name of what was obviously a bar and, next to that, "chckn fngrs, pizza, chz/crkrs, etc"

Didn't take her long to scope out the free food scene :D Like most freshmen, she gained ten pounds the first semester - beer and peanuts will get you every time!

No neon in or around my community either... not even a post-worthy lit sign after my night out. I'm giving up and will skip this week.

I'm sure enjoying all the posts. I have a new appreciation for neon, never realized how good it looks until seeing it in your images.

I'm afraid I'll have to skip this week, too - no sign of neon in the neighbourhood... :(

Well, good work this week everybody!! Once again I've been on the road a bit and haven't been around much... but I have been checking in and enjoying everyone's entries.

Pat and Marie I'm sorry the theme left you with no options. I'm sure you'll have an opporrtunity with the next theme:).

Congrats to everyone on some great images.

Not a problem Bill, first time I've been totally stumped with a theme!

Our "downtown" area is a total of 4 blocks so not much to choose from. Grasped at the "open" signs that Steven mentioned, but they were all inside which resulted in too much reflection from the window glass.

Next one...

No problem here either, Bill. :)

It's just that my neighbourhood is in an old area of the city and most of the shops still have the traditional hand-painted signs (that might also be an interesting theme, perhaps?). I'm studying for a web development project and there was no time to search better...

I loved looking at all the neon photos, and Pat is right - neon does look good!! :)
