Grant
September 21st, 2007, 08:44 AM
The Challenge is now up after a bit of confusion. In the middle of me painting the front of our house Doreen had to return to the hospital for some work on her arm. In all the confusion I put up an image that had been done in the past. Much apologies to all.

Charles H. Young III has stepped into the courts with a great challenge.

************************************************** ************
Present and Past Challenges will remain Until tomorrow at 7:00 pm the
then the Present will be Past and new images will be posted as Present.

* Important notice to all the new people in this forum. This is not a
close shop you are all invited to submit an image. If you don't think you
are good enough this is your first mistake, I think most have found that
working on the Challenge has improved their personal level. So young and
old, hot shots and cool dudes now is you time to post.

Special note send entries to: thechallenge@eastlink.ca

You folks sure have your imaginative and creative hats on! Never thought there were so many ways to view this sports statue. Grant, thanks for choosing one of my photos for this week's challenge.

The statue of the basketball players inspired a lot of great images
this week.

ALEX B: Great background re-creation and three interesting replacements
for the statues. Have to agree on the new forums -- slow, slow, slow.
BARBARA W: Terrific creations from the essence of the image -- love
those folds.
BILL Z: I like the idea of isolating the Jordan figure and then ripple
blurring the rest.
CHARLES Y: The blur isolation works well here.
CHRIS R: Nice work on the background and shading -- that figure looks
so forlorn.
CHUCK F: The Sixers out-jumping the Bulls? Never. But a cool image.
ELLEN H: I like the way you cropped this to emphasize the figure. #18
for Dave Cowens of the Celtics?
JODI F: Already dreaming of a Carolina getaway from the upstate winter?
Great tone and feel.
KIM B: LOL -- love the Easter Island cheerleaders!
LISA B: Great pattern creation!
MALCOLM D: The baton twirler is great -- I like the bleached out color
you used on the background.
MARIA EB: The Rat Pack, perhaps? Or a floating crap game from Guys &
Dolls?
RALPH H: Neat integration into the old movie poster.
RITA G: All your base are belong to us! I, for one, welcome our new
multi-faceted overlords. #2 has a Picasso feel to it -- great work.
SARI M: Love the gradient you used as a new background.

Bob:

Thanks so much for always taking the time and effort to comment on everyone's work! There are so many talented people on this site and their work often goes unnoticed, sad to say!

And not to leave you out, I always enjoy viewing your images and special take on the Challenge. You're very creative! Keep up the great work!

Thanks again!

Thank you, Bob!! Yes, I had something like a musical/variety theatre in mind... that idea stuck in my head the first moment I saw the photo, but took some time to decide on the plan and execution, LOL. :D

I second Kim's comment on your work - I've been to your site and liked very much the way you explain how each photo inspired you for your Challenge entries, and how the result was achieved... Great job! :)

Thanks from me too, Bob. I didn't have anyone in mind with the shirt copy.
I want echo Kim and Maria - your explanations are always helpful.

After reading Maria's comment about your website, I decided to check it out myself. All I can say is, "Dang, Bob, you're really good!" The explanations are great in explaining just how much work it takes to make your images look so put together. Sorry I had previously missed this. See what I mean about really talented people getting overlooked sometimes? :D

Kim, Maria & Ellen --

Thanks for your kind remarks on my website. It has been a useful discipline. And, of course, I see that this the week that I mis-typed the URL for my random gallery. Let's see if I can get it right this time:

Bob,
thanks for your analysis and kind words. This is my first week to have a go at Grant's challenge and I have to say I was (and still am) somewhat nervous in the face of so many talented and creative people.

I just had a very quick look at your website - wow, is all I can say, absolutely brilliant, not only is your work incredible but the explanations give it another dimension. I shall be going back to savour some more images, thank you for including the urls.

Lisa :)

Bob, it was a pleasure to discover the way you work! :)

Lisa, no need to be nervous, your entry is great! At first I thought it was an animation, the gradient in the background creates an illusion of movement... :)

Thanks Maria, you are very kind.
the illusion of movement in mine is more luck than judgement I think ;), but it has really been fun to have a go, I'm trying to connect with my creative side :)

I love your dancers btw, they are great,

Thanks Bob, actually, it originally said ' New York ' but then I realized that particular bird would not be a resident of Upstate NY...BUT...YES....I would prefer to be in NC for winter. It's not the snow...I hate the cold. Thanks

Thanks, Bob.

Seems all They needed was a new suit for somebody to welcome Them:)

I'm so glad people are discovering your website. Of course, I've been an appreciative visitor for many years.
