Hi All,
I hope there will be more problem-solving assignments along this line. When it comes to image recovery, every bit of input is helpful. It seems that each photo's problems are unique in some way & require a lot of trial & error work. Seeing how others solve their problems would be very helpful.
I'm dealing with 1960's slides with excess noise, mold, mildew, bad color & exposure problems. It would be interesting to see how others solve these problems.
Perhaps, these areas of concern could be covered in future assignments. Helpful links or resource information would be appreciated.
Katrin Eismann's book "Photoshop Restoration & Retouching" is excellent, but is written for full PS.
Matt Kloskowski's "The Photoshop Elements 5 Restoration & Retouching" is helpful & is primarily for the beginner.
Nolan Hester's "Retouching Photos in Photoshop Elements 4" is basic with limited information.

This is an interesting method to help remove color cast: duplicate background, blur with average, invert, & set blending mode to overlay. Sometimes it works nicely.
The method is demonstrated in this short movie tutorial:

All the photos look really good. I Especially liked billz. The difference in the before and after is amazing. The after looks like it should be in a car magazine. Very professional.

Thanks for the nice comment Shell. It's hard to mess up a Rolls Royce, but I managed to.:o Thank goodness for color corrections.

Thanks for the feedback ladybug. I loved this exercise, and as usual learned a lot.

Kimi, thanks heaps for your devotion to this site. The homework sessions I have participated in have all been tremendous in the 'learning journey'. Accolades to you.

Thanks Kimi, I have been meaning to work again on the pictures I did in 2003. This was just the push I needed.
I need a new set of eyeballs. I'm just not able to see if one blend mode is better than another, well unless it is obvious.
Every body's pictures are just so great. Great work all.
