I've been messing around with PSE3 for about a week now, using one picture to learn the different tools, etc.. I have run into this wall:

How can I import another picture to my layer bin and cut out a target to be used on my original pic (background)?

ex: I am editing a car jpeg and want to replace it's wheels with a set I have on another picture.

Hi...

Use one of the selection tools (e.g. the magnetic lasso or the lasso) to make a selection around the object that you want to copy. Then go to Select > Feather and add a feather of 1 pixel. This will take the harsh edge off the outline.

Then press Ctrl-C (or go to Edit > Copy) to the selection to the clipboard. Open the picture with the object that you want to replace and press Ctrl-V (or Edit > Paste) to paste the object into the picture. Select the Move tool to reposition the new object if necessary.

At this stage you may need to do two things. Firstly if the old wheels can be seen then use the clone tool to remove them. Also, if the new wheels look as though they've beemn added (say the lighting was different in the other photo) then use Levels to adjust the contrast.

Let me know how you get on...
