Baby Jack is turning one next week and I need some creative help with his invite....I'm stumped with the fonts....the current fonts that I'm using, Varsity and Time and Time Again, just are not saying Wow!!
For all you font-a-oholics out there...here is your chance to play....and yes, I've just read the article in the Layers magazine about fonts and text...but my creative juices just are not flowing.....
Here is my take:

And here is the pic without text for you to play.....

Howdy:
My suggestions are:
1- Reduce the amount of typing on the image.
2- Type "Jack 1st. Birthday" or something like that on the image using a script font. Remember Less is More.
3- Play with the font by making the first letter 24points and the others 14 or something like that.
4- Export the image to a program like Microsoft Publisher, select a Blank Card Design, pate the image on the cover and on the inside of the invitation type the other details.
This will make the invitation look elegant. :)
Just my 2 cents,

Denise, I wish you would have posted the image to Pixentral so we could have played with it. :p
my thoughts...
I would change the font color to cream and find a child font for Jack's name. So it kinda looks like he signed the invitation.

Denise,
There are not enough words in the English language to describe just how precious that invitation is.
I agree with dondiego that less is more when it comes to the amount of typing. I would suggest using some "kid type" fonts .... some suggestions would be Kristen ITC, Kemie Pix, Bradley ITC, Lovitz.
I tried using your sample pic, but it was too small to get the feel for the text. I actually used black text for the "invite" part at the top and put " see you there" in the bottom red border in black and it looked okay ... but hard to tell at that size. Perhaps a light grey font would work for the font on the photo .... colour match to Jackson's overalls.
My two cents worth. :)

Denise this photo is TOO PRECIOUS!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!
Here's my play. (I got a typo on the pic too, opps)
A years gone by
How time has flown
we cant believe
how Jackson's grown!
He's such a joy
and so much fun,
Oh My! My baby's
turning ONE!
(I held down the ctrl key while the bounding box was on the text and moved the corners to angle with the door.)
Font is "dirty finger"

Here is the pixentral link....sorry, the right link and save as function of the thumbnail only provides a res of 72 ppi at 4x6. This should be better to work with.
Thanks for all the suggestions...I'm still reading..

Thanks Kathy...I was reallly trying to save some ink by putting everything on one side...but there are so many suggestions...so I may put details on the back in just plain black text. By the way, the color was matched to the beige of the playhouse...but definately will look at other colors within the photo as well.

Did you use the same action from your football pictures?
Yes I did....I used Nichole Van's BW Essential Actions in Light BW and added the edge vignette. After converting the photo to BW, I copied the color photo and inserted it between the Original BW and POP BW...cool effect. And really makes the colors stand out with some black undertones....

Denise, I kind of got the impression from your original post that maybe you were wanting to go in the sports direction. You didn't care for the Varsity font. Here is an example of the JerseyLetter font. Your pixtentral link didn't work right so the image was even smaller than the first one you posted so I just did the font by itself.
Tina, I love what you did with it.

Thanks everyone....I had font dreams all night...scary, I'm getting caught up in my work!! The night before, it was scrapbooking dreams because of Jessica's class....eek!!! And all of you have been "cyberly" present!!!
Totally forgot about the jersey font. I have this one too....
The party theme is sports (so Kim, you can read my mind)...I just bought the tableclothe, banner and stuff from Potterybarn kids (the soccer stuff), and I'll throw in some Red Sox baseball stuff, and Steelers football stuff.. and the intent was a tailgate because of the college football games that will be on...the food will be tailgate attire...BBQ chipped ham sandwiches (Pittsburgh style), meatballs, tons of chips and dips, and of course, an assortment of fishes for the other 1 year olds, fruit and veggies, kiddie drinks, adult drinks, and decorative cupcakes for the dessert!!
I also have an assortment of other Jack Jack photos in his brother's HS gear and Steelers gear, but really thought that this pic with him ringing the door bell of the playhouse was most appropriate.
I will definately keep the pic side with less, and then add party details on the back. It will printed at home as a 5x7 (I'm late on getting these out; I may need to move it to the next week). Many are going out, so that is why I'm not going with a folded card.
Then the other idea was of course photography related. I would take pictures during the party, and sell them to all the guests donating 100% of the proceeds toward the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. Both Grandpa and Dad have it....so it is pretty definate that Jack Jack has it too. Anyway, I'll stop rambling, planning the party online here...
Thanks all of you for helping out!!!

Denise, sounds like a fun party. I'll bet you will be making a very nice scrapbook for JackJack to remember this day in years to come. I am sure whatever you come up with will be great.
I don't know what happened with my previous post that made the entry so large. Must have something to do with Firefox, I will have to check the settings.

Here is my final.....and it looks great printed. I've got to get these out the door...I did not realize it is already the end of September!!!
I used the Jersey font with just a title on the front, and the back contains all the details in "KidsFirstPrint" and added brushes from SS Scribbles and Fancy Free Doodles. BTW, Tina, the poem will be used on a scrapbook page - I love it!!! Thanks for sharing... And thanks everyone for your help!!!

That picture is just TOO PERFECT for anything on it. LOVE IT!!!!!
I bet everyone just goes crazy over it.
You did a great job with it.

Denise, great job! I also like how there is not text to detract from that gorgeous picture on the front! The back looks great and I love the print, especially the "scribble"! No one is going to want to ever throw those away!

My favorite kid fonts are First-Grader and Second-Grader. There are actually two First-Grader fonts. Here are the links:
