I know there are some of you out there using Viovio. I have been working on my first digital scrapbook for a week now so I do not claim any experience. I downloaded the trial version of PSE5 and I have until Friday to send in my fully finished files to Viovio then I go on a trip.
So I hope you can help me as I need to finish it.
Problems:
I thought I needed to make pdf's but the site says multiple pdf's are a problem.
I am finding it difficult to embed the font familys.
Fonts are not supposted to be subset but it seems they are automatically.
If two fonts are used then only one is subset embedded.
Ideas
It seems other users may be uploading their whole pages as jpegs. Is this true? Does it maintain photo quality and font quality?
What kind of files are all of you uploading?
How did you work out the font embedding problem?
Help!

I uploaded jpgs. It worked great. Loved the book that they produced for me.

The short answer is - PDF's are just for those folks that can't do jpegs. When you use jpegs there aren't any font problems. :)
A few suggestions:
All publishers crop the edges of their pages - so don't put anything important within a 1/2" of the any edge on your pages.
If you scrap in 12x12 like I do, resize your files before uploading to either 9x9 or 10x10 (depending on your book size). You can also save the jpegs as a quality 9 or 10 and still achieve good results with smaller files to upload. If you need instructions on how to batch resize or change file type just let me know and I'll be happy to share.
Number your pages prior to uploading them in the order you want them to appear in your book. 01,02,03, 30, 41, etc.... Once you have uploaded everything including the front cover (but not the back cover - you will upload that seperately in the process) select your cover image as your "gallery image". That will automatically make it the cover when you procede to the book making part.
Hope that helps - if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the quick response. I found embedded fonts to be a terrible thing! I am glad to be able to batch it as jpeg. I read your description earlier today and it was effortless to do 55 pages! Just a few clicks.
Now, I have a few more questions.
I have my pages currently at 12.5x12.5 to account for trim. I assume that if I go to a 8.5x8.5 size that I would want to size it to 9x9? At the present I have nothing within one inch of the edge. Is that overkill?
I really want the casewrap hardcover but I also want the 10x10 size. Can anyone compare their experience with Matte paper (8x8) vs Photosilk paper (10x10)?
What size font are you using so it isn't too big or too small? Most of what I set up is an 18 pt Times New Roman for the journaling sections. How does that work when you resize it? My screen shows the images are 35% when I think they are full size so I have a hard time estimating what it will look like.
Thanks in advance. I feel like it is all going to work out now! I already have my next project idea, a lifebook documenting my 92 y.o. grandfather. I need to wrap this up this week so I can gather his info and get to work.

Rachel - about font size
I think it's relative to how it looks on the page - if it looks balanced on the page - it will look balanced at whatever size you choose for printing. Text is readable as small as 8 point, so I wouldn't worry about being able to read journaling.
If you are unsure - print a mockup with different size journaling - on your home printer - and see what you think - so much of what we do is subjective to our tastes. If you like it - that is all that counts

Because we are looking at our creations on a comptuer screen digital scrappers tend to "go large" when creating - especially when it comes to fonts. I have scrapped at 12x12 and had 14pt font that looked just fine in the 8.5x8.5 book. At 18pt you shouldn't have any worrries.
While you do want to have at least background paper covering your whole page, not putting important items within an inch isn't over kill, especially for the gutter area (binding) as that gets trimed before binding and the binding takes about a 1/4". When I am doing two page layouts I always leave an inch on the inside.
I have done several dozen books with Vivoio, either the satin or silk look fine.
One word of warning - once your friends and family see the finished product they will be begging for more. My mom and my mother-in-law have this strange tendency to drag their copy of my daughters baby book around to show everyone. :)
Good luck and happy scrapping!

I like the trial print idea. Seems so logical now that you mention it. I guess I should have had a V8!
I am going to go with the 10x10 in tan suede since it will coordinate with my pages as well and I like the size. I wish they had 12x12 but maybe in the future. Or maybe I will learn a new size! Isn't that part of the fun...learning something new!
I hope I can make my grandfathers book well enough to show off. I would like for the grandchildren, great grandchildren and now great great grandchildren to know him and my grandmother (who has passed on). I am setting a Christmas deadline so I can tell everyone about it if they would like a copy to give out.
But for now I need to focus on finishing 2003 by tonight.
Thanks to each of you for all your speedy responses and help.

Let us know what you think of the 10x10. I think it will be a great size - heck I asked for them to offer it in that size! But now I'm really hooked on creating my own covers. :)
