Blending Photos and Transparent Edges

I'm trying to make a collage with several photos. I'd like to have them "blend" together, where the edges of one become transparent and overlap or blend or fade into the edges of another. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This is usually accomplished by using a mask and erasing parts of each photo

Do you have Grant's Tools which include the mask?
