I love the video tutorials that are on this group. But I have painfully slow dial up modeum, so it's slow and also ties up my phone line when I'm looking at them.

We live in the country and there is NO high speed here yet.

Is there a way to copy the video tutorial and save it on my hard drive and be able to view it later with out being online? I just got Elements 5.0, using windows XP.

Thanks.

Hi Shirley,

Yes there is a way. But first I need to know, what browser are you using? Internet Explorer? Firefox? Some other browser?

You are asking about the videos in the Subscriber Area, right?

Let us know, and someone will be able to help you.

If you do a SEARCH for Saving Videos you may also find what you need to know :)

I believe that viewing them in Quicktime Pro will allow you to save them. However, you will still have to view them one time.

Well, in case you have Firefox, here is how to do it there:

Click on the video you wish to save.
When the window opens up, right-click somewhere in the window but outside of the viewer. Anywhere in the white area will do.
When the right-click choices appear, click on "Show page information" or something similar (always hard for me to know the English phrase, because my Firefox is in German).
A new window opens up with info about the page contents. Find the "Media" tab and click on it.
On the media tab, find the entry for the video (generally, the type column lists it as "Embedded") and click on it.
Click on the "Save as..." button on the lower right and choose a name and location for your video. Click OK and you are done.

You don't have to watch the movie to be able to save it, but I think you have to let it fully load, even if you don't watch it.

Edit: You don't even have to let i fully load. I just tried it on a video I have never watched before and it goes into the download bin and is downloaded in the background like any other file. You do have to remain connected to the Internet until it fully downloads, however.

Good luck. I am sure someone will be nice enough to explain how it is done in IE.

Scurtis623, that's the same problem I have. We live in the country also and DSL isn't offered to us YET!! I have dial up and I have asked the same question on here. You get very good answers to your questions. Very friendly people as well and very helpful. But as one has already said in order to save it you have to play it, in my case that would take three days. Not really but it seems like it. Hukari might be on to something that might work for both of us. I'm at work right now so when I get home I'll download Firefox and try saving the videos like that. If that don’t work for you just wait and someone with another idea will come alone. That's the great thing about the forum here, there are people here that have hundreds and hundreds of ideas and ways for things to work or to do. I love it, because with all the ideas here you can always change your mind and do it another way. Hang in there, we will both find a way to save those videos.

Hi Shirley,

I don't have time right now to post the instructions. I have to leave for work in little bit. If no one else does that, I can do it when I get home tonight. ;)

Go to this post. I asked the same question a week or so ago, and Kevq answered quickly. Scroll down to his suggestions:

Hi Shirley,

I hope this does not boggle your mind as this is lengthy. If you have any problems or questions please feel free to write back. There are only 4 clicks to find the video, but I am trying to include extra information so you fully understand what to do.

The first thing you should do is go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
Run Disk Cleanup. This may take a couple minutes. There will be 3 dialog boxes that come up. Click “OK” on the 2nd box, then a box asking if you are sure, click YES. This cleans out the Temporary Internet files, and will make it easier in the end to find your current videos.

You must now view the video.

After you view the video go to Tools>Internet Options (in Internet Explorer)

Clicking on Browsing History Settings brings up a new window Temporary Internet Files. Under this window click on View Files

So far you will have made 4 clicks.
1) Tools
2) Internet Options
3) Browsing History Settings
4) View Files

This will bring up a window showing all of the Temporary Internet Files. Here you need to find the video file to copy paste. One way to find it is to look at the Internet Address in the Temp files.

I found it best if you click on SIZE to sort the sizes to show the largest files on top. The Subscription videos will all be in Quick time format with the extension .mov
It will look like this:

1437

Right click and COPY the file. DO NOT try to OPEN or play the file in this window. Now you need to find a place to PASTE the file. I would suggest creating a new folder under MY Documents called Photoshop Elements.
Go to the My Documents/Photoshop Elements and Paste the video. The filename after being pasted will show as layer-erasing[1].mov. I always rename the video removing the [1]. Do not try running the video until AFTER you copy/paste the video. At that time it will run fine.

Reka

Thanks so much for the answer to the question I hadn't yet asked.

I've found having the video tutorials on my hard drive really convenient. I bought a new computer with the Vista OS a few months ago. I haven't been able to figure out how to save the tuts since then. Your instructions for Firefox worked perfectly Reka - thanks a bunch!

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all your advice. As I said I have IE and the directions didn't work, so I downloaded the firefox and followed those directions someone gave on this site. Like someone else said my menu was different also, I couldn't do it.

After spending way too much time on this, I packed up my laptop and went to my daughter's house, she has high speed. I ordered the Quicktime 7 pro, $29.99) got the code in minutes, then I opened a lot of the videos and saved them to my new small external drive. You don't have to listen to the whole video but you do need to let it fully load, then you right click in the title bar and it says "Save as Quicktime movie". So simple!

Note: you should have the free Quicktime 7 on your computer, I had just upgraded to 7, and it says if you upgrade to 7 after you get the code it won't work. Interesting.
