Kimi, yours is soooo cute! I can’t wait to do this week’s assignment. Unfortunately I will have to wait though. Till after school.

Ok I get what we are supposed to do and I think it is wonderful. How do I put just the pixentral link in my post?

OK, really... they are making me smile. :)

are they making you?

I love the fact that everyone is following the directions about just posting the address and not the thumbnail. So ofter I don't even click on an image because I am happy seeing it in the smaller version.

This is making the impact I was hoping for!! I love you guys! :D

I need to give myself some time to think of the message I want to send. My first one was just for an example.

Kimi - Thanks for this great assignment. Also, thanks for directing us to the 'You Tube' video - that was really something. I love how you integrated that video with Corey's chalkboard tip. FUN FUN FUN!

Oh Bill... how nice you thought of your wife. (that is your wife, right?) ;)

What is the name of the guy in the corner? I can't remember.

Sucking up to the teacher.... priceless. :D

I just loved yours. :)

Care to share with the class how you did the flowers.

Why does my smudge tool work so s-l-o-w-l-y? I can wipe the tool a few times across my chalkboard then go fold a load of laundry and its still not done! Well, somewhat of an exaggeration, but close...

Thanks kimi,

For the flowers I just used different brush shapes at different angles. I just recently learned (which I am sure most of you know this) that when one needs to make a straight line, they can make a dot with a brush, then move the brush and hold the shift key down while making a second dot a straight line will be formed between the first and second point. Or one can continuously hold the shift key down while doing the brush stroke and that too will make a straight line. As an AutoCAD user, where straight lines are natural, it frustrated me in Photoshop that I could never draw one. This technique has been so helpful I just thought I would share it.

Thanks ShellB. :) cool ID, is your name Shelby?

Julie... mine works just fine. Instant. That is very strange.
I have used it were it took longer on a higher resolution image. :p

Kimi: What resolution are you using for the chalkboard? I set mine to 300. Darn thing is going to lull me to sleep watching it lazily move back and forth across the screen... :p

I had real trouble with the smudge tool - it would smudge a little and then freeze the whole editor so that nothing responded :(
hence I switched to all lower case letters (in case that had anything to do with it) and then I only smudged a little

I had the same problem too... The first time the Editor froze and I had to shut it down from Task Manager, the second time PSE crashed altogether. :(

It looked like the smudging took up 100% of memory...

Yes, PSE just crashed on me too! That's really strange. I've never encountered any problems with other tools, only the smudge...

What resolution are your documents? After Kimi suggested high resolution documents may be the problem, I tried at 72 and the smudge tool worked nicely. Tried again at 300 and it crashed PSE...

Interesting comments about the smudge tool. I just figured it was MY machine having the problems. My problems are IDENTICAL to those that Julie quoted in the above message. I will try using it in a 72 dpi project, to see if that makes a difference. I'm so glad I tuned in today to see that I am not the lone ranger with this problem.

that must be it, I'd made the new file (for the blackboard) at 300.
thanks for the tip, I'll watch out for that next time,

Lisa :)

Julie, thanks for the reply. :)

My document's resolution was 72 from the beginning... so it seems that in my case this wasn't the problem.

Something I noticed was that this happened twice in PSE 5.0, but not when I repeated the steps of the tutorial in PSE 4.0. But that may just be coincidental...

I knew mine was for the web so I started at 72. Didn't have any problems. :)

Welcome Amanda! You did great! :D

[QUOTE=kimi_boo;306267]Thanks ShellB. :) cool ID, is your name Shelby?

No, Shell is just a nickname for Michele.

I was wondering, do you know if there is a way to subscribe (as in get notifications) to the "assignments". I tried once but it was only for that week’s assignment. Should I subscribe to the Challenges thread? I just want to get notifications when someone has posted a new submission so I can check it out. Right now I am just randomly checking.

Also do you know anything about the newsletters? I only subscribed maybe a month ago. I am just curious as to when I might expect my first issue.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Bayla

Shell,

You just have to look out for the various challenges/assignments/homeworks. For instance, Kimi puts out the Creative Homework on a Wednesday, Bill does the Photo Theme on a Sunday.

With regard to the newsletter, it does take up to 8 weeks for them to process the first one: If you haven't received yours by then I'd give them a call.

Bayla

PS: BTW I loved your chalked flowers - they looked very authentic!

Thanks for the info bayla. It actually hasn't been 8 weeks so I'll just have to be patient. Also I think I got the hang of the forum. At first it was really awkward and I couldn’t ever find anything, but now I’m ok, I think?

Many thanks,

You get an A+.
