hi, does anyone know why some files that I copy and paste to
"My Pictures" from PSE3 are PSD and some JPEG. The PSD dosen't open for some reason. Thanks Rick

PSD format will happen when you save a file with layers in it -- to preserve your work.

I don't understand why PSD won't open -- it is the native format for PSE. Perhaps someone will be along to address that issue.

Hi Rick

What do you mean by "won't open"? In elements? In Windows?

Let us know and we will see what we can figure out.

Rick,

it won't open in Windows, it just has the PSD icon. I click on that and get the icon in Micro-Soft Photo Editor but it won't open there either. The Microsoft Photo Editor probably won't open a psd file (especially if it's layered). It sounds as though the Microsoft Photo Editor is set as your default program for opening pictures from Windows. To test whether the files will open in PSE3 right click on the thumbnail and select "Open With", go to the bottom of the list and click "Choose Program". Find PSE3 on the list pf programs and highlight it. If you want PSE3 always to open these files then check the "Always use the selected program...." box.

Let us know how you get on with this...

I'm in PSE3> select the file > go to edit > copy > then open my pics > right click > and paste. That isn't going to work I'm afraid. What you are doing is selecting the picture and trying to pasting into Windows file structure... You could however paste it into another program that uses the Windows clipboard (e.g. Office).

Why do you want to copy and paste the picture? If you want to save it there then just go to File > Save As...

Hope this helps..

Mike

I think there is a way to have at least the icons (thumbnails) be visible in windows. I know it came up before but I can't remember what the cure was.

Hopefully Mike will have the info.

Rick,

Oh... yes right... if you are trying to create a thumbnail I do have the solution. You need to add a dll file and do a small (but very safe) registry edit using an exe file. I have both files needed. If you send me your email address (by email or pm) I will forward both files and the instructions.

Gary, thanks for the prompt :)

Thanks, I thought you had mentioned that you had the files, I just wasn't sure. :D
