I've been trying to finish up a wedding this morning (and I'm soooo close 10 images away!), but Photoshop has just been impossible. I keep getting "Request could not be completed due to program error." or some such nonsense. It happens when I open levels, Neat Image, resize image, try to save or apparently have too many images open at a time; pretty much everything I want to do in Photoshop, it'll give me this message. And then after giving me this message a few times, Photoshop will just shut itself down even if I'm in the middle of something. Has anyone had this happen to them with PSE5? I'd really rather not re-install the program. I've already had to reinstall twice before because of this issue since I got it last December. Does anyone know if this problem is common with PSE5 or did I just get a messed up copy? And what can I do about it, so that I don't have to keep reinstalling the program every couple of months. Which wouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that I keep having to reinstall all my special plug-ins....Help! Please?

I'm running 5.0 on a PC with XP and I'm not trying to do the above actions on a an adjustment layer or anything like that.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Something to try: cleaning up your temp folder. I think you can go the Start Menu, then choose All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Cleanup.

The other thing to check - have you defragged lately? How much free disk space do you have. If you have another disk drive that has more disk space, you can point the "scratch disk" to it.

This happens to me too, especially when I'm doing a HUGE project that I haven't saved yet!!!! Thanks trish for the advice. I need to do these things on a more regular basis. Doing all this photo editing does fragment the harddrive tremendously and the temp folder....YIKES...gigs of stuff at one time. thanks again!!

I can see I should read all the threads before I ask a question. My computer was doing the exact same thing tonight. It also said I was low on virtual memory. A friend told me to reset it. We clicked start>my computer>view system information> advanced> under performance click settings> advanced> under virtual memory click change. There you can check how much free space you have. I had a lot of free space and my settings were very low. We changed them to "inital size: 2000, maximum size: 4095 (that was the max my computer would accept). After that we clicked "set" and then OK. And now everything seems to be working fine. If anyone sees anything wrong with this info please let us know. Thanks
