Hi Rebecca ...
You can't a repair with Elements ... it just doesn't work.
You need to full unistall and then do a fresh install, that should sort it out ..

Hi Wendy, do you know what would happen to all the pictures on the organizer if I uninstall and reinstall? Rebecca

I tried to repair the PS5 program and it kept coming up as insert the disk. The disk was already in the DVD place. Someone suggested I need to uninstall PS5 and reinstall it. What happens with the pictures in the organizer? Do I just import them and then have to retag or what??? Rebeccav

Rebecca,
The PSE5 repair does work, it is just a little weirded out.
I was trying to prepare a script for you to follow, but once I got it to work on my WinXP system (some months ago), it behaves properly.
What I had to do was when I got to the insert disk, open it up and navigate to the CD where the install program was waiting. I recall I had to a specific directory and it just worked. Try going to the Adobe Photoshop Elements directory. I will try some things out an my other system and will get back to you if successful, but the repair will work, does not alter anything and does not require an uninstall.
This may or may not solve your problem.

Well, I just tried it on my other system where (as far as I remember), I never reinstalled PSE5 and it worked first time, no problem.
There was an issue with PSE4, and I originally posted it on ths site and got no solution. I believe what you have to do is navigate to the folder with the .msi file extension and it should work for you.
One thing the reinstall will do is restire the Camera Raw processor to the old state - the newest one is better, so maybe copy it out before it repairs or reinstalls

Your problem may be able to be fixed by just resetting your preferences. Do tell what your issue is? It is rare to have to reinstall.

Rebecca,
Your catalogs and photos will be just fine. An uninstall does not touch those.
Make sure you disable any anti-virus software while uninstalling and installing. (If you're concerned, take your computer off your internet while you have your anti-virus disabled.)
