Since there is no curves adjustment in PSE5, is there another way to make these adjustments beside levels?

I am a relatively new user to PSE5 but I think there is a color curves adjustment. It's in the advanced options section. Hope this helps.

Annewin,
You can get a free Curves program from Easy Filter Smart Curves.
Here is the path.

To be a little more specific, it is in the Editor, Enhance, Adjust Color, Adjust Color Curves, then click on the Advanced arrow to get the curves sliders.
There is also a free download that gives you pretty close to the full Photoshop functionality for curves here (http://free.pages.at/easyfilter/curves.html)
Comment:
The one posted by doug for earthboundlight is to the same plugin. (it is where I and countless others found it). It works great! :D

Annewin,
There IS curves in PSE5! If you go to Help/Photoshop Elements Help and then type in the word Curves, you will get some help on this, PLUS there is a link to adobe.com which is a direct link to a video you can watch explaining more about curves in PSE5. (Video done my Matt K)
My understanding is this, that the curves in PSE5 is not the same as curves in full Photoshop. Someone else will have to explain that better.

Charles,
A bit of a debating point. The latest version of Photoshop CS3 uses the same technique as in Elements, but also offers the original option for curves adjustment - one might say the classical point adjustment.
To me it is a question of preferences and "old dogs" will stay with the point adjustment and "pups" will learn to like the sliders.
I recently purchaed CS3 and still installed the smartcurve filter - just to compare what I know with what I am learning.

.
John, where do you find the slider option for Curves in CS3? I only see the classical view....
EDIT: Ah, I believe you're referring to the curves adjustments in ACR, not in the CS3 editor...

John,
No problem. Anne said there was no curves in PSE5, I was just saying that there is a color curves in 5, but maybe not the best.

Charles, you're right. It's the first time Elements has had a native curves adjustment of any kind, albeit a small step. Hopefully, Adobe will give us a little more with PSE6....

Unfortunately, the Enhance menu doesn't contain this option for the Mac, and the curves plug-in works only for Windows.

Hi Tricia ...
Its easier to drop back to PSE3 and use Grant's Tools ... the improvements to PSE4 were mainly in the area of the Organiser so you don't actually lose much by using PSE3 instead :)

Wendy, good tip. However, I've installed all of my brushes and other plug-ins in the version 4 folder, so it would take a bit of work for me to go back to version 3. I think I will keep my fingers crossed that version 6 will be available for Mac and that it has the improvements we've been talking about. Hoping ... hoping.

Hi Tricia ...
If you install PSE3 back on you Mac and just install Granta's tools then you would have both available :)
Not ideal but it would work OK ...

Yes, I personnally use smartcurves at epaperpress.com.
But I also happen to have to work outside home with a standard PSE4. Then I use a gradient map adjustment layer in luminosity mode.
Needs some practice, but very flexible. You can think of gradient map adjustment layers as just another interface to replace curves.
Of course you can't apply 'curves' to individual RGB channels unless you have hiddenelements powertools or something equvalent.
