I have been using PSE to prepare slideshows with images, video, music, narration and text. I just downloaded the trial version of Premier Elements to see if I could get better control of the audio portion of the project. I'm having a problem getting Premier to recognize the input from PSE. When I click on 'Get Media from', the 'Adobe Photoshop Elements' entry is grayed out, and is not even present if I click on the media icon (both programs were open at the time). How do I get Premier to recognize PSE?
A second question. Once I do get Premier to recognize PSE, can I import an entire slideshow created in PSE, or am I restricted to importing just the component images, videos, etc., from the PSE Organizer.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.:)
In answer to the second question, you can import an entire slideshow creation into PSE. In PSE Organiser, open the slideshow creation, then choose Output>Send to Premier Elements. That'll open up Premiere and begin to set up your PSE creation as a project.
I don't know why PE won't recognise PSE. Choosing that Get media option for me opens up Organiser. What versions are you using?

Nick, thanks for the response. Now I know how to get a slideshow from PSE to Premier, if I can ever figure out how to get the two to talk to each other :)
I am using PSE 4.0 and Premier 30-day trial 3.0. I wonder if it's because of the trial version.
Thanks again,
Stew

I don't think it's because of the trial - Adobe's trials are fully functional as far as I know.
I think it may be because PE3 is compatible with PSE5 not 4.

Nick, I just checked the Organizer in PSE4, and it does not have the 'Output>Send to Premier Elements' that you previously mentioned. So, it looks like PSE4 does not play well with PE3.
Do you happen to know when a new version of either program is due out? I'd hate to buy the upgrade to PSE5 and find out that PSE6 is due out the following month.
Thanks again,

Stew,
To start, I will ask you to excuse if I am asking something that you already know.
Before you try to send your Photoshop Elements 4.0 slideshow to Premiere Elements 3.0, are you first converting it to wmv and saving the wmv as well as the creation version in the Organizer? The wmv thumbnail in the Organizer usually has a blue icon in one corner (at least it does with my Photoshop Elements 3.0). The Creation thumbnail usually has a yellow icon in one corner.
The Photoshop Elements File/Send to Premiere Elements, only works if what you are sending is the wmv slideshow (modification, I am pretty sure it also works with just jpeg stills from the Organizer). But, NOT the creation version of your slideshow with the combo that your describe, Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0.
The specific combo of Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0 gives you the choice to send either the wmv or as is. This combo has the perk of offering certain editing possibilities for your slideshow once it arrives in Premiere Elements 3.0. Not so, with other combos.
Added note....have you tried taking the wmv slideshow, saving it to the hard drive, and then using Get Media in Premiere Elements 3.0 to bring you wmv slideshow over to Premiere Elements?
I believe the wmv conversion (or lack there of) is your issue.
Let me know what happens.

ATR, thanks for your input. I definitely can bring into PE3 the wmv version of the slideshow made with PSE4. I was hoping to bring in the raw project version of the slideshow so that further editing could be then be done in PE3, but it looks like I will need a newer version of PSE in order to do that.
Thanks again for your help.

Just be careful what newer version you go to.
There is a new Photoshop Elements and a new Premiere Elements version coming out any day (by all reports). Although these programs can be used as standalones, in the past Adobe has marketed the new ones featuring a specific "combo" perk.
In the case of Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0, a major perk for combo use was the wmv or as is sending/editing ease.
In the case of Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Premiere Elements 2.0, a major perk for combo use was being able to create (not just edit) your own DVD Menus for Premiere Elements. When you have both these programs installed, I think that under Create a DVD Wizard option appears.
Bottom line...who knows what perks the Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Premiere Elements 4.0 combo will tempt us with??? Unfortunately these combo perks are specific and have not carried over to add to the ones of the next newer versions.
But, take another look at what you can do with Premiere Elements 3.0 with regard to adding video and stills at the beginning or end of your slide show. You might even want to experiment with the Razor Tool to cut and insert. But, do that on a test run first.
