Gail,

I remember when "Bubble-Up" used to be a "7-Up"-type soft drink!!!

Byron, I sort of remember that, too. Good thing we didn't drink from this bottle.

So Rob, a gurgurling gargoyle, eh? Really neat. The Cabernet looks interesting.

We're off to a cork-popping start this week already.

Larry - Starting a party with a bit of wine is always a good idea. I like the eclectic selection of the wines and the treatment looks nice and homey. Nicely done.

Lorri - Thank you for not using my cabinet for your subject. You got a nice sharp close-up shot!

Gail - I like the composition with the clown photos in the background. Nice tie in!

Carol - Barnum animal crackers!! I like the composition ... it highlights your collection well. And frankly I like the sag in the shelves.

Rob - As always a tack sharp image! Nicely presented ... and your gargoyle has good taste!

Clara - You got a really crisp shot! I like the way the edges work with the lace ... it looks like fray. Really neat.

Looks like we'll have another week of great entries.

heheh, I was wondering why the wine was gone every time I placed a bottle there. I have not tried that Cab yet, the guy at the farmers market up the road gave it to me as a gift after I engraved a beer mug for him. While I'm jetting off topic, nothing beats a farmers market less then 3 minutes away with a butcher shop, fresh veggies & a wine store with a huge cooler with domestic & imported beer:eek:

Ellen,
a lovely shot, but what are bottle cap saints?
do they come like that or people make them?

thanks,
Lisa :)

Enjoying all the entries... Rob's gargoyle, Ellen's bottlecaps and the coke bottles are so neat! Bill I continue to admire your camera skills, the coloured bottles make that image; what an eye you have.

Once again there are great takes on the theme- from wine stashes to kitchens to coolers to recycling. (Steven's sounding a bit cranky:))
Lisa- the bottle cap saints were a gift from a friend in New Mexico; one is a pin and the other a refrigerator magnet. I guess the dog bottle is from a vet.

I second your comments, Ellen! All great, imaginative shots! I thought Rob's gargoyle and the miniature bottles were so cool!

And I , too, noticed that Steven seemed somewhat cranky! You'd think he was trucking these cans the 2500 miles to Berea himself, wouldn't you? :p

Great job, everyone!

Ellen - The bottlecap saints are terrific. I like the lighting on them and the vignette treatment is great.

Pat - It is a shame that the subject matter is so abundant. Your shot is a great one though ... and I'll bet that the bottle is no longer on the beach either. Thank you, and thanks also for the very nice comments.

Steven - I actually thought about that, but figured you could dodge the work issue with a bottle of home brewed ale! I was just trying to help by giving you an excuse. Next week we'll go back to obscure foreign holidays.;) I liked you image nevertheless ... the colorful bales play nicely off the mono-toned background.

Interesting subject Steven, thanks for including the info. I agree with Bill's comment, a really nice shot against that background!

Bill- Thanks for the comments, and you know I do enjoy taking my camera to work. It affords one the opportunity to look at everyday items in a different light, and it gives me a chance to increase my stock photography with what I stumble across. I like your cooler shot too. You must have a good relationship with your coffee shops for it seems they give you free access. And I am looking forward to the Chinese New Year's Challenge again this year.

Ellen and Kim - What you perceived as "cranky" was in fact me looking at these cans metaphorically. I saw them as the continuum of the life cycle in which we all live. The cans were representing the friends, family and experiences we all have. With this comes a deep reflection that these cans, and what they represent, will soon be gone. Some may return, but most will not. Do you realize that what you saw as "cranky" was in fact an overwhelming sensitivity to a perception I held at the time of my writing? I would think not. Perhaps I'm being a tiny bit sarcastic here.:p

Ellen- I liked the bottle especially. Is that a dog shower curtain background, or do you have a new pattern stamp?

Pat- Thank you for your nonjudgmental comment. Your photo has great commentary; litter is bad enough, but Coors Light? Yuck. Do you think the can may have belonged to Blueberry "Bob?";)

Oh, snap!

Ellen, I believe Steven just put us in our respective place. Thank you, Mr. Sensitivity, for pointing out the error of our ways! Now I'm left to wonder how you were able to focus and take such a great shot while the tears were flowing from your eyes??? :D

Just kidding, Steven! I'm still your biggest fan! :o

I'm a bit abashed too, Kim- what were we thinking?! Even misnaming Blueberry Bert has come back to haunt me.

Steven - thanks and yes it is a curtain - had to either blur it or iron it. Didn't think of it as a pattern but I am now.

Edit

Kim - just saw yours and I like it a lot. How did you shoot that? It looks like you would of had to have the camera in your mouth.

kim2900
September 11th, 2007, 09:33 PM
Believe me, Ellen, it wasn't easy! And Steven might suggest I probably have a big enough mouth in which to fit a camera!

But actually, I just set up a huge stack of books in front of the screen, set the camera on delay, and took the picture. The real trick was not getting Wite Out on my screen for real!

Thank you for your comment!

I certainly do know that Steven.... that's what made it so hilarious!

Well - now I've gone and done it Ellen - I called Kim (Linda) in my last post. I do so apologize Kim and blame it totally on ROFL at you guys... what goes around comes around back at me!

Steven, thank you for always being such a good sport! And I'm thoroughly enjoying becoming a part of the Challenge family! :)

And, Pat, don't give it a second thought. I'm often confused with other people! I'll answer to anything... Linda.... Michelle... whatever... :D

Hi Steven,
I watched the movie 'Premonition' (with Sandra Bullock) this afternoon and saw your avatar, - twice I think!

I was half-expecting to see one of your creations :)

PS sorry if this is not the right place for this

Lisa-
I'm not familiar with the movie you mentioned, but am curious what part the Kit Kat Clock played in it? I have had one of these clocks most of my life, but I broke this one making the avatar photo. It now sits in pieces on a table with the eyes rolled to the sides. Very sad.:(

Steven,

it was (fairly) early on in the movie - Sandra Bullock is living a premonition when we start and as the viewer we don't know that, anyhow she seems to flip between one level of reality and the other (future and present) and on a couple of occasions, there is a clear shot of the clock on the wall - and I think just the clock which is why it struck me. So I guess it is significant in marking the time for what will happen, if you see what I mean.
I only rented the dvd so don't have it to check.
It's a pity it didn't have more of a role really - like it would've been cool if say the doctor had one in his office or the lawyer as well.

But I did remember (and was sorry) reading you saying yours got broken in making the avatar and then seeing it in this movie (new-ish), thought such clocks must be around somewhere. Wonder who chose the clock for the movie?

I do hope you find another one, it's a really cool clock,

Lisa :)

Lisa- I did find the web page for the Kit-Kat (http://www.kit-cat.com/clocks.htm) clocks. There are more choices than I ever imagined, although I just want the traditional tuxedo one. It appears they are all battery operated now, unless you buy a refurbished electric.
I take it you are a cat person too? For some reason on my two trips to the UK I thought the cats were more friendly than here in the states. I was surprised how many would come out to say hello when I was walking down the sidewalk. Perhaps the polite English manners includes the cats too?:)

Bayla - That's a very comprehensive collection of theme material ... nice shot. It's neat that your green boxes are green ... our green boxes are yellow.

Kim - Clever idea ... the next time I have monitor problems I'll give that a try!

Suzi - Cool image .... I really like the depth of field.

Lisa - Both good entries. The composition and the colors in the first one are wonderful. Fun bottle too!

Marie - That's a fun collection ... and as I recall Baileys and crackers are two of the major food groups.

Maria - The color of the glass and the softness of the new roots really provide a nice contrast from the hard lines of the background.

Tony - You found a slice of heaven! What a beautiful shot.

John - Those are really amazing colors. Nice entry!

Mary Nell - Here's another good depth of field. Looks like a 'road trip' to Paris might be in order for a replacement! Sounds like more fun than e-bay.

Byron - Careful with that stuff (and by all means keep Gary away from it.) The Inca in question is the goddess of fertility (http://www.beveragewarehouse.com/search/more_info.php?item_id=2463). Cool shot.

Gary - There ... see what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it!!:D Fun image.

There's still time for some more entries ...

thanks for the website link, so many varieties!
Yes, it's nice to be walking down the road and have a cat say hello, which they often do. Too bad we've got a bullying ginger one living near us, who just waits to beat up my boys, he was after Farouk (my avatar) the other day :(
