I am trying to learn to use filters for blur effect, watercolor and other painterly looks. I have looked at the tutorials and videos for help and have used the directions on several painterly videos but still am not satisfied with what I get. Do you adjust an image (level, saturation, contrast) before applying any filters? Also, do you sharpen an image after applying filters?
Any suggestions on a good source for learning to use filters or directions for using them.
I just completed the layers class and did learn a lot there.
Thanks for any help.
Anne;)

Although I have seen good results with some photos using the native filters in PSE, many users download and use add-on fiters and plug-ins for for more functionality with artistic effects. Here are some to check out:

There are so many variables, depending on the photo, the size, the resolution and the effect desired to give any one bit of advice as to when, or if, to sharpen, or adjust hue/saturation, etc.
