Locked layers

This morning all my photos in photoshop elements 2 are locked and I cannot work out how to unlock them to crop etc. Has anyone any suggestions please?

Just a guess - maybe they are opening as background layers, with no other layer beneath them?

In the Layers palette, try right-clicking the "locked" layer (if my guess is correct, you should see the word "Background" next to its thumbnail) and choose "Layer from Background". That should do it. :)
