Magic Selection Brush

I am doing Kimi's Homework Lesson 33 Brush Mask
I am trying to select a figure with the Magic Selection Brush . I get the Marching ants but then the figure is not selected out . I thought it just did it automatically & comes in the Layer pallete with the figure on a transparent background ? ? What am I doing wrong ?

Can you tell me how you did it? I'm fully awake but new at this.

ktbruns -- what do you want me to tell you .How I used the Magic Selection Brush & got the figure out ? I woke up :)
Edit>Copy
Click on Photo in Palette Bin where you want image to go
Edit>Paste
Resize & move it around using the Move Tool.
I used the Magic extactor this morning & did better with that. Different Photo but I had to get 3 people out of there. :)
