I have come to the conclusion that there is a big problem viewing QT movies on Vista. Are any other folks having this problem? None of my podcasts are viewable on my new Vista enabled (hmm or should I say crippled) machine. VLC, is a great general purpose freeware media player that works great for all types of files.

Hi Don. I have Windows Vista Home Premium and Quicktime (registered version) and have had no problems with either Vista or Quicktime. I have read here of some people cursing Vista, but as of yet mine has run perfectly, and I purchased and installed it the day of it's release.

I've had this problem and it seems that if you have S/ATA drive and are running Vista, there seems to be a compatibility issue that hasn't been fixed yet. What I've been doing is running my quicktime movies from an external HD. I did a search on google and found this fix. If search google you should find some interesting discussion on this topic. It seems to be affecting alot of users. Hope this helps

Yes my PC has a 400 gb SATA drive so I am sure you are right, in any case I think QT movies run better on VLC than they ever did on my PC (XP that is since they do not run at all on Vista).

Thanks,
Don

I had almost given up hope that QuickTime would be made compatible with Vista - Thankyou Mack for giving the link to VLC - it works perfectly now I can watch the podcasts! :)

Hi Mary!

You bet, I am glad it works for you too. It may be my imagination but I swear while using VLC QuickTime movies run and look so much better than they ever did on the PC.

Very helpful thread. I just bought a new PC with Vista and double checked my HD--it's SCSI, so I shouldn't have any problems.

VLC sounds promising. I'm all for trying any software that challenges the big boys.
