Creating web background using elements 5.0

Usually use elements to work with digital pictures. Want to create a fairly simple background. Thinking about a Vertical color stripe fades to white then fades to another vertical color stripe. Any suggestions on how to set up. New to this forum and task, so any comments are appreciated.

What I would do is use the rectangular selection tool and make the size of the stripe you want. Then select the gradient tool and fill that selection with the gradient. Hope that's what you are looking for. You could make as many selections as you want and fill them.
