How does one make a rectangular selection on a document and have it centered? I have used the grid and ruler but it seems to me that there is an easier way that I read somewhere but I can not find it. It could be be that I am thinking of another application but I remember the instructions saying "hold down some key while doing something and the selection will be centered. I am not crazy, just addled. BillandCat

Alt will draw a rectangular selection centred on wherever you start it. So if you set the rulers to percent and start from the 50/50 point it should always be centred. Alt-Shift keeps it square.

Tony -- Sorry to take so long in answering----this is not too important but now I am interested. You say to set the rulers to percent--Ok, I can get the rulers but how do you set it to percent? Also I am on a mac and to straighten this dummy out, does option or control do the same thing as alt? I am ticked off at myself because I can not solve this simple procedure. BillandCat
