In viewing your entry into the latest challenge, all I can say is.... And I've always been such a fan.......
"I am shocked and chagrined, mortified and stupefied. This is the most public yet of my many humiliations"
I spoke to my lawyer, Jackie Chiles, today and he will be getting in touch with "your people." :p
Seriously, this is so good! You outdid yourself!
And the rest of the entries are really terrific! For the life of me, I can't figure out how Alex Barna removes the main image so seamlessly! Bob, really great effect! I felt like I was standing in a meat locker! Jodi - Beautiful! Looks just like a painting. Malcolm - I had to look twice at this one! Creepy crop of its eye! Good one! Maria - Wow! Great Aztec effect. How did you do this? Mark - Wonderful water effect and reflection! And I love the breakout and the shadow! Very cool! And then.... there's Steven! At least you won! :D
These will be a hard act to follow!

Kim, thank you! :) I mostly used the Texturizer filter (brick and sandstone textures) and the Emboss style in order to make the central figure stand out. I got the Minotaur body and labyrinth texture from photos of Cretan amphors and mosaics, and played a bit with drop shadows and distortion filters.
Red Sky's interpretation is amazing, I loved the idea and the humour. :D And all the other works are great too, I never stop admiring everyone's inventiveness!! :)

Kim- I fully understand your reference to Jackie Chiles. But any thought that my entry is litigious is simply outrageous! After all, I took the hit myself.
I wonder if Wendy could do a tutorial on how to make a realistic cow pie? I had trouble with that.:D

Thanks for your comments. I was fooling around with a text style tutorial and got the idea for the 'locker beef'.

Hi Grant,
I haven't joined in this before (and am a little nervous about doing so as everyone is just so amazingly creative), but I have a question -
would I just email an entry as an attachment to the address you give or put it up on pixentral and send you a link?
and are there any rules as to what can be done to an image?
thanks,
Lisa :)

Lisa -
The address you have looks right ... there's also a link (http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Welcome.html) on Grant's welcome page. Yes, just send it as an attachment. I know the first time you submit something it's a bit unnerving, but I think you'll find it very rewarding to participate and you'll be quickly hooked! I hope you'll send your entry in.
Here (http://www.cavesofice.org/~grant/Challenge/Rules.html) are some of the size limits and naming conventions to use on your image when you are saving it for submission.

Some great images last week -- and that's no bull!
ALEX B: Another remarkable background re-creation in #1. Re-inserting the orca and having it battle the bull is cool -- and that chimera in #4 is scary!
BILL Z: Love the sparkle on the horn tip and the snorted breath.
BLUE S: Great color shifts -- neon edges plus?
CHUCK F: Wonderful atmospherics -- are those the Italian Dolomites in the background?
ELLEN H: The stark two-color look is great.
FRANK Z: Interesting textures on the paired bulls -- and I like the way you exploited that butterfly cutout at the join.
JACK S: The animation is neat -- love the dust he's kicking up. I'm almost afraid to go to the website in #2 -- where isn't there bull in politics? Love the new energy drink in #3.
JANCY: The faded paint on wood look is terrific.
JODI F: Great work on the mist and the soil surface -- love the overall look.
KIM B: LOL! The cape is too much.
MALCOLM D: The isolated eye looks so different -- neat idea.
MARIA E: The minotaur look is terrific.
MARIE S: Nice substitution -- I give him three more seconds.
MARILYN L: Great work making the hair and hide textures realistic.
MARK R: The ripple reflection is cool and I love the out-of-frame idea in #2.
RED S: Weird idea, execution and message -- cool!
RITA G: The labyrinth theme is great -- love the color and composition.
TOM M: I like the way you chose to ' double-expose' some portions of the image and transform others -- love the wood block print look you achieved for the fence and truck.
