I know I've seen this on one of these forums, but can't find it. How do I hide the part of a paper clip that goes behind a photo when it is clipped to something. This is pretty basic I'm sure, with a layer mask, but for the life of me, I can't remember how to do it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Check out the Subscriber section for it. If you cannot find it, I will go into how to details.

create a layer mask on the paper clip layer (make sure the paper clip is isolated - i.e., it's not on a layer with a white background)
with the mask active, simply paint black on the areas you want to hide.
presto!

Just a quick add on to the paper clip video cited...
That video uses the Eraser Tool for hiding the desired areas of the clip. As mentioned, the non destructive way via the Layer Mask works nicely on the simplified Shape Layer. I am assuming that you will be using the Paper Clip in Custom Shapes/Shape Tools.
Do you have the add on for a Layer Mask for Photoshop Elements?

I didn't use the paper clip in the custom shapes. I have a .png paperclip that I used. The video worked, but my paperclip is "bent" the opposite as his, so I may go back and use the custom shape on. I know, I know, it should be just as easy to erase a different area than his, but I think I'm directionally challenged, so it would be easier to use the custom shape one. I'll try that tomorrow after my eyes have healed from being on here so long tonight. Yes, I do have Grant's tools, so that's another option.
And thanks, Graficalicus for your advice also. I've used the layer mask and that works as well also.
