Missing photos

I’m missing photos thumbnails in the photo browser view of organizer. When I tried to “get Photo” and I am getting an ODBC error. Also is there a way to rebuild the metadata in the event I should move my Photoshop program from one computer to another. I’m storing the photos on a large USB external drive. In the past when this was done my organization (editing overlay, tags, collection, and camera properties) of all the photos was lost. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I am not up on 5 but the standard first things to try when something goes wrong are:

File>Catalog>Recover

Delete the preferences (there is a folder/file somewhere that you can rename and allow the program to regenerate it. Some people make a backup copy when things are working well and use it when things go wrong. A search on the forum should bring up the details.)

If you move to a new computer you can restore from a backup which should keep you from losing everything. Or you can be sure you copy your old catalog to the new computer as well as the images and try reconnect all.
