need help with templates

HELP!!! iam new to photoshop and i really want to learn how to put pictures in a template. I have all these templates, but cant figure out how to put the picture in them. All my directions does not work with my photoshop elements 04. So if anyone could please send me step by step easy to follow instruction for a beginner with no knowledge of photoshop I would greatly appriciate. thanks so much:)

Open a photo
select> all
edit> copy

Go to the template

using the magic wand, select the square you want your photo in

edit> paste into selection

Then grab your move tool and move the photo around - and size it - using the bounding box that appears when you select the move tool

Once you have the photo adjusted - hit enter

Don't hit enter or anything else prior to using the move tool to "fix" how your photo appears, because once you hit enter, your photo is forever melded with the box.

If the template is a psd - where each box is on a separate layer
you will need to be on that boxes layer prior to selecting it with your magic wand and using "paste into selection"

DON'T USE "paste" - you have to use "paste into selection"
