Wow! Kimi .. I just cannot believe you are on week 33! I remember Week 1 ! I am so glad it is still going strong! You are doing a fabulous job bringing new techniques each week! I wish I had time to do them all! I have saved some of them to do when I get caught up.

Okay, I'm not too familiar with using masks never mind brush type.
I get to stamping the brush mask on the layer (and it's coming out black). But when I do Ctrl E to merge with the white, I only see a little of my picture through it.
Also, how do you know where you're stamping if the layer is white and you can't see your image.
Or maybe I'm doing something wrong to begin with!! Help!

That was why I had to use free transform. The mask I stamped was small.
I just guessed at the size. Pulled it to more or less fit the white area.
I haven't had a chance to read what the link provides. I am sure it has more info than I know. Until I read Tony's directions I had no idea how to use a brush mask. That is why I thought it would be a good thing for us to learn.
Try again and let me know if you got it. :)
Edit: yes it should stamp black.

Norma: Start simple. New layer over your background. Fill with white. Blend Mode Lighten. All you'll see is white (temporarily lower the opacity so you can see through). Now use a brush (any one will do to try it). Foreground Black. Make the brush the size you want. Click it once on the white layer. You should now see the background through the brush shape you applied. Change the opacity and you'll see more or less of the background outside the brush shape.

Tony and Kimi, that was my problem...I didn't lower the opacity so I couldn't see where to stamp the brush. It is coming out black so I'll try it again. Thank you so much!

Here is another attempt at using masking brushes. I really like the technique.

Bonnie: You're getting good at this :) and thanks for asking the question in the first place that got me figuring out what mask brushes were all about which lead to Kimi setting your question as this week's homework. So seeing as you started it you can post as many as you like ;)

Finally got one finished. Thanks for the Link to Deviantart -its like a candy shop over there.
I really like your's Smiles ,the blue looks a little like a thick cardboard edge. Did you put a shadow behind it ? It is not flat looking like some of the others.

I just wanted to say I loved looking at all the different types of photos & brushes everyone used. Lots of inspiration for me...the one I did was pretty basic and I can't wait to experiment some more!
Thanks.
