I took a trip to the zoo this weekend with the kids and got some wonderful pictures. My kids wanted some pictures of the penguins there and I was able to take some from above the glass and some through the glass. Here is the dilema... one of the best pictures was taken through the glass and while there is no glare (:)) - the glass had a yellowish tint to it that has now tinted the whole picture yellowish. What steps do I take in what order (if it is even possible) - to correct the color and get the tint out? And what is the best method if any?

Hi Jason...

Try Enhance, Adjust Color, Remove Color Cast. :)

I usually click on the white area but read the directions and give it a try.

Thanks... Im at work but will try it when I get home. I am usually very careful when Im taking my pictures, but there was no way around this one and the shot was too good to pass up without giving it a go in the editor... but it is my first photo with a bad color cast in it, so I have never had to try to get rid of it... I played with adjustment levels but that did not turn out so good.

Do let me know if you like the adjustment. I use it all of the time. Sometimes you don't really see the color cast until you try the fix.

Make a duplicate layer and try it on that one. Then you can compare. :)

This may be a new tool to add to my tool box:)

I am still very new to PE5 and sort of learn hands on... I wait for a problem or issue to arrive in my photos and use that as an opportunity to learn new things or techniques (at least until I get more familiar... then I will get creative). This seems to work better for me than trying to pick random things to learn and look for pictures to use them on.

I think I am almost ready to take on a project or start trying some of the creative homework assignments.:) - I had to get comfortable with the basics first though :D

you are on the slippery slope to becoming another Photoshop Elements junkie :D:D

The more you learn - the more you want to learn.

Try what Kimi said first. If that doesn't work, try a Hue/Saturation adjustment. When it opens up the box next to the word "edit" will say, "Master". Change that with the dropdown to "yellows". See if moving the saturation slider to the left does what you want.

I will try both methods and let you know how it comes out.

I did not even know/think about Kim's method - I haven't played around in that menu too much yet. I did try using a hue/saturation layer because I have had luck with it in the past for minor hue changes but nothing this drastic. I did not realize :o that you could change to a specific hue like that however (kinda feel silly since I do know how to change a levels adjustment to the individual RGB components).

Hey Jason, I gotta ask...

You show Ft Knox as your address; are you by chance at the depository or the Armor School?

Just wondering :)

I think there was a way of removing colour casts in either the last newsletter or the one before that that involved using a solid colour adjustment layer.....but I can't lay my hands on it at the moment...I know I tried it out and it worked beautifully!

Maybe someone else remembers which issue it was in?

I actually work for Recruiting and Retention for the Kentucky National Guard. Decided to do this after getting off of active duty from Fort Knox where I was an instructor for Cavalry Scouts.

BTW... I did not have a lot of time last night but I tried both methods and both seem to work better than what I tried. I could not get it just right last night but I did not have much time to play with it. I am sure now that one of those methods (or both) will be the key to fixing the photo... just need some time to fiddle with it and figure out how to tweak it to get it right.:)
