Hi, I have the following problem:
I have bought & installed PE 3.0 on my PC using Widows XP SP2.
When I try to open the program it appears to be starting OK but before the program is fully loaded it suddenly disappears.
I've tried removing & re-istalling PE 3.0 three times with no change.
I've also tried right clicking on the program icon on the desk top, then > run as .........but then I get:[\pre\Libraries\Asl\Foundation\Src\DirectoryRegistr y.cpp-174]
As a PC novice this stuff totally defeats me.
Help (Simple would be great) will be much appreciated.

Let us start the problem solving process by checking out this TechNote from Adobe
Troubleshoot Installation and Startup issues (Adobe Premiere Elements 3.x)
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333202&sliceId=2
Let me know how you do with this.
If we cannot figure this out together, I believe Adobe T/S offers free support for start up problems. You could check that out to confirm.
Once you do get the program open, do not forget to install Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Update from Adobe. If you cannot find the link for that, please let me know.

If one has to jump through that many hoops just to get the damn thing to run, then it only shows that this software was written by monkeys. Quite literally.

I am not employed by Adobe nor this web site, so I am not lobbying for any particular point of view. I do not have relatives at Adobe either. So, please read the following in that background.
You are posting in a thread that is 2 years old and downgrading a version of the software that is outdated. In its time, the major problem was that was not designed as Vista compatible and Vista operating system were being used. The Premiere Elements 3.0.2 took care of many of those issues. Sometimes, the user did not notice certain requirements in the published Adobe System Requirements. All that is probably an oversimplification, but is in keeping with the topic originally posted 2 years ago.
The subsequent versions of Premiere Elements (4.0 and 7.0) are Vista compatibile. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and what problems are you having with it. In the good old days, the topic was Vista compatibility. All the Premiere Elements version are 32 bit applications. So, today the topic is Premiere Elements compatibility in a 64 bit system. For most, Premiere Elements seems to be working in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the 64 bit system.
It is highly unlikely that the Adobe management will see your comments here. To make your point to them, it might be a good idea to write Adobe directly. But, if your issue is specifically with Premiere Elements 3.0 (3.0.2), you will no doubt get the response to update to the current version (7.0).
As you know, programs (Adobe and non Adobe) have learning curves and problems (some software and more often computer related).
Please let me know if you want to troubleshoot a specific Premiere Elements problem. If not, good luck with the video editing program of your choice and exploring its liabilities in that program's forums.
